Safe and Easy way to UNCAP

Post by DiskDoc »

Not only I, but I think the other members on this forum are getting well annoyed by this by now. For those who want to uncap their modem, here's a 100% safe and easy way to do it. Follow these instructions step by step and you'll be done upcapping within minutes.

1. Take your modem apart
2. Get a hammer and hit it 5 times in a row (note: this must be done within 3 seconds or else it won't work)
3. Put the modem back together
4. Hook it back up to your PC
5. You'll notice the increase in speed.

If that doesn't work for you, I'm sorry to say but there are no easier way to do this. You might then want to click over to the Uncapping Tutorial in SG.

It seems that something in step #2 is not right...Not sure what it is though. Might have something to do with a chainsaw.

You left out the step about the Candy Apple Red Racing stripe that must be applied vertically down the left side of the modem. :p

:rotfl: you guys are hilarious i swear to god. chainsaw and apple candy. I just didn't want to make this too complicated for those who are impatient about uncapping. The chainsaw will only increase the speed by 1MB/sec once the hammer treatment is already applied to the modem. There is a chance of you getting caught as the modem will try to download at a speed of 5MB/sec. But if you'd like, go right ahead and take Silver and blebs suggestion too. This really works guys!! No joke. Hope you enjoy.

P.S. If you experience any technical difficulties while apllying this to your method, feel free to post here and we will help you out as much as possible.

I have found that after step 2 you should clean all parts in the dishwasher(use Cascade so no spots appear.) The Elmer glue then will work much better.

Simply put the contents in a GLAD garbage bag, secure tie-wrap tightly and twist at least three times counter clockwise.

NOTE: your device now has been transformed into a self powered wireless network that will probably achieve MACH3 or 4 speeds! Use with caution; can self combust if speed remains at MACH 4. ;)

LMAO :rotfl:

AoD, njed's method will probably work better than mine. But you know every PC is different; things/tweaks don't always work for everybody. If njed's method doesn't work, you may want to put all the parts, including the plastic (that's the most important part) in a box and set the box no farther than 6 feet away from your computer. Hook up the RJ45 cable and the power cable and turn the PC on. Keep us updated on it's performance.

Oh and by the way, have a fire extinguisher ready just incase. :D

Well if you go with SilverDakota's tweak, the picture will look some what similar to the icon you have under your name.

ok ok i think its working i used some spare resistors from an old vcr to replace the parts that were broken off the modem in step 2..... but here is my new problem after i hooked it all up to my pc......ethernet connection i couldnt wait to try it so i pluged the modem in to the power outlet, well to say the least it was more spectacular then the fourth of july.. well after the smoke cleared and i again reinstalled some spare parts, this time from the new vcr i once again set out to try this, well I thionk my ethernet card needs to be uncapped to fully utilizethe modems new blistering speeds. Is there anywhere i can find to uncap my networkcard? is this even possible? I tried follwing the same steps as for the modem but all that did was force me to go down and get a new eternetcard. I tried the manufacture but they just keep hanging up on me. thanks in advance for any help :)

The easiest way to double your speed is to not plug the modem into 110 volts, plug it into 220 volts instead. You can bend the prongs on the plug and it will fit right in. My ISP hasn't caught me yet either.

An exciting discovery last night while uncapping my modem!!!

Taking advice from AoDLiQuiD-M3tH... I unhooked the cable wire from my modem and plugged it into my DVD (in). I then ran another cable from the DVD (out) to my VCR (in). I then hooked up the VCR (out) to my cable modem.

There is room to play here but this is what I did (results may vary). I then put the movie “Uncapped Passion” (low budget French film) into the DVD. Speed test showed a remarkable increase in upload... although download stayed about the same. I then slipped the movie “Don’t Cap My Life” into the VCR and hit play (both DVD and VCR running at the same time). I must say... I was impressed. Not only was my upload faster... but my download went through the ceiling!!! WOW!!!

In an attempt to find the outer envelope of uncapped speed... I surmised that speed was being lost via my unshielded modem... although it was fully uncapped as detailed by DiskDoc. I place the modem into a garbage bag (twice) and then placed three rolls of aluminum foil around the garbage bags. Basically... I was looking at a big wad of aluminum foil with two wires protruding.

I was going to try it last night (shielded modem) but my wife said she needed to call the insurance company first. Tonight is the night! I’ll let you know!

Just a quick update well it seems that the speaker wire is heating up the breaker to thin i think so what im gonna do is staple the fuse to the side of the fuse panel to keep it from flipping.

The ultimate Ethernet speed trick. Items needed:
Hammer
screwdriver
Nic
agp slot
Since a NIC only operates in a 33 mhz pci slot simply install in 66 mhz agp slot to double your speed. On some motherboards a good wack with a 16oz hammer will assure proper seating. If you have a agp vid card you need to expand the agp slot with the screwdriver so both fit.

Okay… Here we go.

The wife called the insurance company and they said we are covered against natural and man-made disasters (rude of them to put it that way… but oh well). After reading AoDLiQuiD-M3tH post about additional electricity to boost the probability of superior upstream/downstream flow, I became intrigued. I pulled the jumper cables out of the trunk of my Ferrari (another story) and adapted them to the dryer electrical outlet. I thought about the hot breakers… and the required cooling and came up with this. When they start to glow red, or I see copper melting, I’ll just yank them off. Remember… the insurance company said I’m covered.

Anyway… I stuffed the modified jumper cables into the dryer outlet making sure that the positive and negative (at the other end) did not touch. I then place alligator clips on the plug-in to the modem. So far… so good.

My wife took the kids, dog and turtle somewhere in the car to distract me. Didn’t work. I stayed focused. I moved the ball of aluminum foil into the middle of the room and fired up my wife’s computer (I might be dumb… but I’m not stupid. Not going to use my computer). Excitement was in the air. The aluminum ball in the middle of the room vibrated. Fortunately… the modem absorbed the additional burst of electricity and I made my way to the monitor to check my speeds. Here is what I got.

Image

I’m now going to play “Debbie Does Dallas 2002” in the DVD and “Hurt Me You Big Strong Man You” in the VCR. More to come. Stay tuned!!!!

:)

The Real Way To Uncap

Post by illestdynasty »

Ok, ok, I'm about to banned from this place, but I'll tell you how.

Yeah, It does work, but take it from somebody who took the time to actually sit down and read it, and try it. You have to adjust your modem's partition(YES, modems have partitions too) Here are the steps.

First, you'll need a win98 boot disk, you can get one from http://www.bootdisk.com Make sure you have a freashly formatted 1.44MB floppy. Label it "dumb " (cough cough) um "win98 boot disk"

Second, Insert your newly created win98 boot disk inside your 3 1/2 floppy drive, thats drive A for you newbies.......

Third, with the disc in, restart your computer and when the command promt appears (looks a lil something like this A:\ _)

Forth, type in Format C: (yes C for cable modem, this will flush the partitioning parameters. Type in yes when it askes you. When its 100% your all done with the hard part (pat yourself on the back)

Fifth, Restart your computer and follow this lovely link, supplied by SilverDakota Uncapping Cable modems (continued)

Hopes this helps,
ill. :)
