2 GB file size limit.

Post by DEVX2K »

I have a movie file on my pc that is 2.2 GB. I am unabled to open the file in any of the players I have. I thought perhaps it might be a codec but I have all the latest. Someone mentioned to me that it could be because there is a 2 GB files limit in windows. If so how can I get around this. I am running windows xp prof

that 2 gig limit your talking about is due because of fat32

the ntfs allows for file up to the 20's of gigs

Yes, for video editing machines, keep a partition, or better yet, a separate hard drive to act as your swapfile/working/"scratchpad"area for your video editing program. Keep nothing else on this hard drive.

Use NTFS partitions so you can get larger files.....as you discovered, yes, with FAT/FAT32, you have limitations on how big individual files can be. Nothing to do with partitions, but individual file sizes.
