XP Tweaks

Post by Wallygator »

Hello again. Here we go I'll do this again. I have a new computer. P4 2.0, 256 ddr ram 80gb HD, Windows XP. This computer is on my home network using a Linksys router,(which I've had absolutely no problems with), sharing a broadband connection. I am using SGs optimizer. I just cant figure out the best RWIN. Here's my SG analyzer stats:

TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 50 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Also I have tried the web patch and that seems to slow it down actually. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Web patch is already installed in Optimizer, uninstall one you downloaded (Patch), try these RWIN's 601520,, 642400, 706640, 730000, 747520 and 51100 or 64240 last 2 numbers under Tcp1323Opts scaling is not checked unless Tcp Recieve Window (RWIN) is above 65535
Please upgrade your profile since you now have small pooter

Test sites (speed) in help thread below, They will open another browser, only 1 open during testing :) :)

Man Lobo you are on the ball!!!! Ok I'll try those. Does the highest one always work better? With optimizer I can just go to restore windows default to get rid of all tweaks and then start over right? Thanks

Don't mess with File and default settings, just check custom settings and enter a number each time, select adaoter, apply changes and REBOOT each time or it no workie, CONcast is CAPPED at 1500/128 so if upload speed is below 128, keep tweeking or:

Please call ISP: Ask them Wups up with upload speed

Press 1 if you are broke
Press 2 if you forgot why you called, call 10-10-220
Press 3 if this is a speed issue, everything looks good
Press 4 if you want to listen to sound track of Gone with the Wind
Press 5 if you are having problems that we can't solve
Press 6 if that dog won't hunt, or wont stay under the porch
Press 7 if your tired of waiting, were tired of you waiting
Press 8 if you want us to hang up on you
Press 9 if your not sure you dialed right number
If you want to speak to personnal rep you are 415 calls away, approx wait

time is 3 days 25 min, thank you, Dude are you getting a Dell :)

Sorry, sometimes the smallest number works best, depends on your connection :) :)

Try speed test sites in Help Thread in signature, it will open another browser, close 1 of them, select site nearest to you

Thanks again. I've got two more questions, not internet speed related though. When I first turn on computer and double click IE it take about 8 seconds to open up, after the first time it opens normally. Also XP takes a long time to shut down.
