My problem when hosting game servers
whenever i host a server on a game for people to play, it is always choppy for them. there pings are stable but it is very choppy for them. whats causing this, and is there a way to fix it???
Whats your upload speed? My friend had a problem like this. He was like my average ping is 80's what the heck. So I made him do a net_graph 5 (For counter-strike) and his ping would be like 75-80-85-220-80-75-80-267
So everytime he got the jumpy lag for a sec, it would be when his ping spiked which he couldnt see because CS shows average.
But I dunno if thats a client or server problem.
What game are you guys playin?

Also how well you tune your computer that's being the "server". You want a better quality NIC in a server, like a 3COM or an Intel.
And the router counts if you have one...something a little better like a NetGear or a Nexland.
The OS you serve on, although 5 - 6 players won't tax Win9X, desktop OS's (win9X, 2KPro, XP, etc) are designed to work with up to 10 concurrent connections, beyond that, you really need a server OS.
Your upload of course dictates how many clients also.
And most importantly, hopefully you aren't playing on the computer that you're also serving on. Nothing eats up resources like someone serving AND playing on the same computer, enjoying the "zero ping" advantage. You want a dedicated server.

Make sure "g_syncronousClients" is set to zero, not one. One allows people to record demos, but can also add lag.
