Tweak for Speed

Post by Mastert252 »

Hi everyone, I just recently got my Comcast network up(switched from @home) and I was just wondering if my speeds are as fast as they can be. Here is my information:

Windows 98
Comcast.net Cable Service
256 RAM
RCA CAble Modem
Compaq
DRTCP setting at 513920

Here are the results of my Analyzer test:

TCP options string = 020405b40103030301010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 372296
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 46537
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 14891.84 kbps (1861.48 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 5956.736 kbps (744.592 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 34 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Please let me know. Thank you.

Download SG Optimizer to your desktop, select connection type at top, select optimal settings at bottom, click on apply changes at very bottom and REBOOT
Select adapter you are using
If you wish to enter custom TCP recieve window select custom settings at bottom, enter what you wish, click on apply changes at bottom and REBOOT.
If you wish to select LAN speedup, click on custom settings, other settings tab at top, LAN speedup=yes.(Faster loading of web pages)
If using Cablenuts adjuster too, you must first bring up adjuster, click on clear all boxes at bottom and reboot, then download and install optimizer.

Optimizer in my signature

Your RWIN is not set to 513920, see above test
extreme settings in Optimizer will set that RWIN :)

First do a speed test from Speakeasy, choose the location nearest to you and test, then post you results along with what your caps are from your ISP. ;) :D :D

If you have TweakXP installed in your system it will keep changing RWIN back everytime you reboot :)

Thats good for CONcast's Low Speed Network

From CONcast web site:

**Speed comparisons are for downloads only (and are compared to 28.8K dial-up and 640K DSL). Upstream speed limited to 128kbps. Actual speeds may vary and are not guaranteed. Many factors affect download speed. Ask about speed when you call or visit http://www.comcast .com. Not available in all locations. For questions, minimum requirements and complete details about service and prices, call 1.800.COMCAST. :)

OK, I installed teh Optimizer and applied setings above. How do I look, can I be faster?

TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 50 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Thanks for all the help.
