video cam recorder instead of webcam

Post by Hamid »

I was wondering if i connect my video cam recorder to my graphic card ,what will happen? easy solution : try it and it works very charming exactlly like web cam ... now if i want to use it as a web cam through internet will it work ? this way, i save a good 100 $ instead of buying one of those sophisticated one.
My cam corder is giving me great image , comparing with those web cams i have seen in the market.
I think first of all i need a software for it like netmeeting or kind of regulator , then i think i need a real high speed conection too.
here i am lost , i dont know what is the next step , or is it at all feasible?
any help will be great . :cool:

Are you running Windows XP? If so, go to START>RUN and type in "conf.exe". That will start the installation of Net Meeting.

start->settings->control panel->add/remove programs->Windows Setup->communications, and check the "NetMeeting" box.

-or-

start->Windows Update. if you don't have NetMeeting installed it will appear as one of your choices for download. i would suggest this method as you will be getting the newest version of NetMeeting.

Well , today i tried them and it looks very good to me ,so my guess was right that it is only the netmeeting software, thanks to all of you guys , but is there anywhere i could check it to see that how good it is ? if i have not gone far away. :cool:

a way to see how good what is? you mean the image quality of the video stream? or how good the video quality is to your computer?

not sure what the question is, but let us know and we will help.

As far as I know(not very, admittedly) you cannot use a DV cam attatched to your comp vie firewire as a web-cam. I was trying to hook up with some folks via netmeeting, and both I and another guy who was trying todo the same thing were unsuccessful in getting it to send video. I did a little research via google, and found out why this was. After a short amount of time snooping around, I was unable to find a work around, but there may be one.
I think if you connect via usb it may work, but i dont have that option.
If anyone can prove me wrong, please do and include some links for me, i'd like to get this working.

Well , i guess you did not pay attention to my first part of question , actually it is a cam recorder VHS style , and secondly if your video card has a jack to hook in , therefor (like mine) will work 100% , third your video card comes with a software to handle it and finally the net meeting automatically find it for you and make it as a default. if you do mot have the software then maybe your card does not have the capability of handeling it , look at the back of your graphic card to see if you see any jack for pluging for video in. good luck :cool:

No, I don't have any input on my video card. I use the IEEE interface for dumping video into my machine from my camera. I believe it is the specifically the software in netmeeting that doesnt support video input in digital format...????
