Roadrunner tech support.

Post by Jameser »

Hello, I really need some assistance with roadrunner support. Maybe some of you will have some suggestions on how to handle these dimwits. All right I have had a problem with pings for quite sometime now over 4+ months.

I can not seem to get a ping to most servers bellow 90ms (not that bad I know) but it can be quite high which is more consistant at 150-500ms. This is usally in games I play, not just one in general, but all. Halflife-DOD-IL-2(great sim BTW)

I always try to get my local support desk in Michigan, they seem to at least hear me out more, and say the problem is being worked on which I no longer believe. Most of the time I am transfered to the National Helpdesk "Nightmare Helpdesk" All they care about is if I can browse the internet.

To me this is really a load of BS 2 of my buddies connections through comcast, or @home, usally pull 75ms average. I even went as far as emailing them tracert's and pings from my connection, and then from my buddies. I know its a different service but they needed to see how crappy of a service thay are providing. Anyways the tech I spoke was jelious as I am of my friends results.

I tried tweaks but after 4 months of research, I understand tweaking will not affect pings. Correct?

And roadrunner seems proud to offer AOL type bandwidth, just to browse the internet for 50 bucks a month. Sorry if any of you work at roadrunner I am just a disappointed consumer, no flames attended. Any advice, suggestions, help is greatly appericated. Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long post but I need help....

Sorry that you are having trouble.

Please post some traceroutes to the gaming servers you use.

Are you running any other applications, such as KaZaa?

Thanks for the reply Kip.

I will do post tracert, when I get home. I am at work right now.

I do have WinMX, but I do not run it while I am testing connections, or gaming.

Sorry for my ignorance how do I tracert e.g xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx.
I tried that once before, but it just posted errors, I think I may need to just drop off the :xxxxx part.

Again thanks in advance.

tracert x.x.x.x >c:\trace.txt

will save the trace to a file, then you can cut and paste.

hey jameser,

I am also in MI, i had the same problem that you are having awhile back. I am with attbi (use to be @home) not roadrunner. I went through the tech support stuff....sending in trace routes and all that. I even had a tech come to my house to see if there was something wrong. It turned out that the service in my area was just overloaded and we needed another T-line to support it. So it sounds like that might be the deal in your area also. Are you pings ok at odd hours like 2-4am? I would check with other roadrunner customers in your area and see what they say. I dont think the boradband service in MI is the best but its better then dial up.

I am usally frustrated and have my machine off by midnight, so I would not know, at 2-4 all tough I am going to try sometime maybe tonight, or during the weekend. Any clues how to contact fellow timewarner/roadrunner customers, thats one thing I was really thinking of doing but did not have a clue how to....

Well i dont really think that roadrunner tech support would give out the names of anyone in your area. I just figured that maybe you knew someone with it that lived by you. But if not, i would say your best bet would be to get ahold of a local Tech and ask them how their service has been.

Well, Above Net has made things a little difficult. They have listed San Jose as the location of all of their routers. They are not following the rules. It took a little detective work. Abovenet uses airport designations in their server names, IAD is Dulles, DCA is Washngton National, and LHR is London Heathrow.

Your server is in England. A ping of 150ms is pretty good.

I'd suggest that you find a server nearer to home.

I guess that makes since. But thats just one of the servers I play in. Usally most of the pings average 150+. However Yesterday when I was grabing some of the IPs in halflife, I did notice the pings were much better. So who knows maybe TW/RR got it together. But I will keep an eye on pings and tracert's as I have done on a consistant basis. Thanks for your time KIP, and Krip, I will post if problems.
