RCW lock up issues.

Post by Jon »

I am having a problem with Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

The game will lock up in almost the same exact spot each and every time I play through that area of the first single player map.

If I go around that area the game does not lock up.

I called acti-vision and to no avail they pawned it off as a hardware issue on my end.

Here are my system spec.s

P3 800
ASUS P3BF Rev.1006
300 watt power supply
Plenty of cooling!
640 mb PC 133 sdram
Hercules 3D Prophet 2 GTS 64mb
Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer 5.1
Western Digital 30 gig. Plenty of space free.
ASUS 50x cd rom
HP 9100i CDRW
Windows 2000 fully patched, everything SP2..etc....
Full ACPI

What I have done so far.

Installed the latest NVIDIA drivers
Installed the latest SB Live Driver Update

I swapped out my sb live for an Aureal sq2500, The game still locks up.

I pulled all my ram and tried each stick in each of the 4 slots with very similar results.

When the game locks and all I hear is a squeal back through the speakers. the only way out is a re-boot, ctrl/alt/del does nothing.

I can run every other game I have with out a glitch.

I've run a Quake 3 time demo (001) and can pull 100 fps with out even a hic-up. I've run this demo 10 times in a row, no lock ups what so ever.

The only thing left to try, that I can think of is to take the cd back for a different one????

I wonder if a sound or something is not being copied correctly from the cd and this might be causing it to lock up???

Any, and I mean any, help would be greatly appreciated.

Am I over looking something?

thanks

Jon

Give the game more ram this might help, find the shortcut to the single player game then r click and choose properties add this command to the line +set com_hunkmegs 128 the whole thuld look like this
"C:\Program Files\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\WolfSP.exe" +set com_hunkmegs 128

It does not matter the amount of RAM in your system, unless you tell the game how much to use
