Problems loading Web Pages

Post by Jeat »

I use cable with Win 98SE and webpages sometimes are slow loading, it takes 60 seconds or more then the lights start flashing and then there it is. This is and intermintent problem the page will load and the next time it seems like it times out, then on retry or many retries it loads in a flash...As I say sometimes it works great then the next time slow loading...Any suggestions would be helpful TX...

it is simply DHCP requesting an ip address every 10 minutes or so depending on how you have it configured/ add this to your registry settings:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000020
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000010
and
Right click on Network Neighborhood (My Network places)
Choose "Properties"
A new window will open
Highlight the TCP/IP bound to the Ethernet card that is connected to the DSL Modem
Click "Properties"
Choose the "IP Address" tab, specify, and give it an IP that is internal (like
192.168.xxx.xxx)
Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
"OK"

Right. As soon as I fixed DHCP on my Win2K machine... things started running smooth again.

A couple of questions:
Has it always been like this for you?
No actually work well up to a few months ago...

Have you done any changes recently?
Well not to my knowledge

Were you @ home and experiencing change of ISP and IP, etc... DL any new progs,...
Yes I was on at @home but have be changed back to my local ISP, but that has happened in the last few days. The problem started before this..

Does this happen at same sites always or random (any site you go to this can happen...)
Random I would say sometimes the same site will have no trouble then the next time I load it laggs..

Does this happen at same time everyday?
(Sometimes the page you are looking for is getting a lot of hits from others, sometimes slow server, peak traffic times on net..)
No it happens at all times off the day anytime all the time...

Are you using any host files to block ads, or any program to block ads? None

Have you made any custom security settings in your browser? No

What changes have you made as custom settings... None

Give us some more info and we will try to sort it out...
Ken

Well tx for the reply I hope this helps you I can't figure it out. This is actually my parents system but I maintain it they don't or aren't "suppose" to do anything without my knowledge lol...Yes we where on @home but have since changed in the last few days. The problem is sparratic at best sometimes it works fine for a few downloads then starts to stall but it seem to be totally random.. I'm on the same cable system (we only live a mile from them) and my system works fine...Tx again for the help
