I use MCafee and they update every week. There dat files also send you email of new virus just came out. Their newest release of mcafee is the 6.0. It runs about 39.99. I have use Mcafee for years and never had aproublem with it. Plus it has always caught any virus that tried to get into my system. Plus a have the full version of the 5.21 version. I have never paid to have it upgraded. It came with the first computer I ever bought. I just burned it to disk and kept it. It has a lifetime updates on it. ;) I don't care for Norten and have never tried any free ones. ;)

I run the DOS version of F-ProT exclusively. Works great, no auto-update or system intergration nonsense, and to top it off it's free.

I have notice what you are saying about Mcafee , Most store bought computers , Do have a proublem with Mcafee. But I always build mine. So I have never had a proublem with it. Now with Norten It drug my system system down. In other worlds It slowed all my programs down. I guees it just depends on the computer. I am not putting it down because It works great On my sister computer. Where on Mine It don"t. Just think it depends On the type computer and software you run. T =his is just My opinion! ;)

I am using NAV 2002. The thing I like about it is that it updates every day (so many new viruses) so I feel safe from just about anything.

If not, I keep everything back up on cd, and I just reinstall.

jujet84 suggested AVG and as you ask about good free ones then I would suggest AVG as well.

What have you used in the past?

After a bit of reading at another forum there is a link to a server that will supply InnoculateIT PE without going through Computer Associates.

Not only that, they maintain the updates on their server as well. I don't know yet, how often they update their updates though.

This is great for those who do not have the registration for IPE, because it may mean that the unregistered use of the program that Computer Associates no longer has available is now ok.

IPE is the same program as one still marketed by CAI called VET AntiVirus. The interface is the same, the autodownload is the same and apart from the file download description i.e. "aup.1111"
being changed to ???.1111 nothing has changed.

For those who still want to use InnoculateIT PE, here is your opportunity to do so.

For those who don't, my previous post still stands. I still use both.
