Cable modem bursting

Post by 33RG-Shrike »

I'm getting massive lag on games because the sharkfin cable modem I just got is sending via a burst mode or something. (hope this makes sense).

Is there a way to disable the burst transmission and have a linear transfer rate?

Getting about a 30 ping in counter-strike but seeing other players warp and stutter on screen due to the burst transfer.

I don't have an answer to your question but I have a question about online gaming maybe you can answer. If I buy Counterstrike, what all is required for me to play online with others? I have a cable modem, BTW. Thanks.

All you need to do is install it. Then you can either use the built in server look up (which sucks) or download either Gamespy or Pingtool. Pingtool is better since you don't get spammed with ads and pop ups. Check out http://www.nerdtreehouse.com for a couple of server IP's.

Burst Mode?

Post by phenix0000 »

Is your connect DSL or cable?

if it's DSL, try this URL
http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/#Interleaved

It talks about a Interleaved mode that can slow down DSL. :)

Hope you find it useful!
