Is it true?

Post by Mwing »

... that Microsoft will "attack" the user's computer if it finds out that the OS the user is using is illegal copy ,and making the user's copmuter unstable or need of format?? If so, Win98, ME, 2000, XP included??

I am curious to know that and if Microsoft does do that, how do they perform the "attack"??

I heard on the illegal copy of XP it will pop up a window saying: You are using an illegal copy of windows XP, your ip has been logged and you will be contacted by microsofts antipiracy people's. Then it proceeds to break yer stuff. This is what I have heard. On 98/me/2000 I have heard nothing of this.

That is my knowledge do with it what you will :D

[edit] O thats if you use it on the internet only. So something is broadcasting to microsoft or something.[/edit]

It's true

The statement concerning microsoft punishing piracy is true. !0 minutes after switching on the machine will display an illegal operaton then lock-up the keyboard necessitating a reboot, Then it will announce a corrupt registry and require a re-install.............no wait, sorry, that's just normal windows operation, i was getting confused.

There's no way they would risk doing that. Imagine all the lawsuits that would occur when people who legitimately bought their copy had their computer intentionally screwed over by MS.

that would suck if your computer crashed for no reason, then you reinstalled xp and it crashes it again.

This is not true.
No matter what crime a person commits, it requires federal wiretap laws/warrants to perform such a task as connecting to another computer via internet and disabling or crashing it on purpose.

No matter what some hacker does to your system, it is illegal for you to respond w/ a similar attack or hacking.

When you install Windows, You have to agree on the agreements, in which it stated that once you install a version of Windows, you can only have up to 10 machines using that copy, and as you know, Warez spread and people kept taking it for granted. If you can't abide the rules, then they would have a right to terminate your service.

I think the agreement stuff is not legal binding.
It's just a disclaimer right?
