Please Help me with this Problem :(

Post by Trancentral »

Hi

Well , I wanted to format my C:\ drive with win2k on it.
I read somewhere on the internet that the programme : fdisk
would help deleted 1 disk parsion ( wrong spelled)
Well , I deleted it and now when I start my pc , it seems that my cd-roms drives are mentioned as if there harddisks :(
And at the point where win2k should load there this:

"Could not find a OS"

All my bootdisks wont' work :( (((((((

I can only access my Bios , So I'm guessing that this problem can be fixed with re-configuarting some bios things

So I'm asking you all : PLEASE Give me advice how to get my system starting again !

p.s : I'm now using my ****ty old pc :) , So that I can still go on the internet and see you guys tips

use a boot disk and boot with cd rom support and then install 2K

I am not exactly sure what you did or what the problem is here...

Im assuming you deleted your partition(s) and now can boot...

Now you are going to have to create a new partition using FDISK and then format it and reinstall windows

I had a problem like that. First of all... take your battery out to reset your bios. Then read this:

http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread ... t=editoral

If you have any other questions, PM me. I went through the exact same thing.

Okay thnx for the answers

the problem is that I deleted with fdisk my Primary c:\ drive
and when I try to reboot with a bootdisk it says could not find the OS
With the win98 bootdisk I can still access my a:\ & d:\
( not cd ) drive
but no c:\

How do I make my c:\ working again????????

and in the bios-startup screens it say's that my AMD is 1005
but it is acctualiy 1405
and that's the same with a few other things

First of all, reset your bios. Also, if you're not using fat32; then dos will not see the C: partition. I would boot with cd support. Then go to D: and run fdisk.

If you removed your partition (fdisk) you have to create a NEW partation. Use the link tam69 gave you http://www.geocities.com/ssjdoh/fdisk.html

make a new partition, format C: , install your OS.

You need to make sure your boot disk has the "format" & "fdisk" commands on it.

You boot to the disk, and start up Fdisk.

You said earlier that you deleted the "c:" partition (normally the primary dos partition).

When using Fdisk, if you delete your partitions, then you will also have to re-create the partitions, in the size you want.
By re-creating them, you are "defining" your drives.

The partition that is to be the boot partition, should always be "c:" (the primary dos partition).
You then have to make it "active" (just the primary partition).

If you didn't re-create the partition and make it active after you originally deleted it, then Format won't work, because you removed the drive partition and didn't "redefine" it by creating it again.
Understand ?

Put your Startup Disk in the floppy drive.
Boot up.
When it starts, start the compuyter with CDROM support.
Let everytthing run. When it's finished you should have a A:\ prompt.

Type FDISK
When the program starts, you can choose yes or no for large disk support.

If you choose yes, basically you will ba able to make partitions larger than 2 Gig.

When the next screen pops up Choose "Create new Primary Dos Partition".

It will verify your disk and then ask you how large you want to make it.
Specify the size (in MBs).
It will create the new partition and then, if you want, you can specify an Extended and any Logical partitions.

When your finished making your partitions, select the option to Set a partition ACTIVE.
Choose the C:\ Drive (probably "1")

After that, exit FDISk and REBOOT.

Let everything start up as before. When you get to the A:\
FORMAT C:\
YES

After it formats the Drive, you can go to your CD and then run setup for your OS.

Basically, you got rid of your C Drive and need to make it again.

Peace,
FunK

Oh well, I suppose I'll forgive you. Sometimes I get emontional for no reason, you'll just have to excuse me.

Now then, let's fix your problem. The base root of your problem is one of two things. Either the c; partition was formatted using nfta(win2000 type fat32), or you screwed up on fdisking. it doesnt matter what you did, because the fix is the same. First of all, you must reset your bios. Unplug everything from that computer and open the case. Now, remove that little battery for at least 15 minutes. Just let it sit. Now, put the battery back in. Put everything back together.

Now, I want you to go to this website:
http://radified.com/Doc/fdisk.htm

Print that and read it at least 5 times. You have to FULLY understand how fdisk works, otherwise you'll mess it up. Now, we may begin the healing process. Put a win98se boot floppy in. Also, put the win98se disk in. turn on the computer. I might have the prompts wrong, but you'll figure it out. You want to start you computer with cdrom support. Go to the d: prompt and run fdisk. after you finish, reboot and go back to prompt with cdrom support. Now type in E:\ and enter(E: is your cdrom I think) then E:\ cd win98se
Then type in format c:
Then type in format d:
By gaining access to your win98se cdrom, you've given yourself the format program. Sometimes it doesnt load into dos on startup.

I'm assuming you still have two partitions.

Let me know if this helps or if you need more help. Tell me everything!
