Formating Good?
Hello, my computers running slow and crashes a lot. And when I try to run scan disk it says my hard drive isnt proproly formatted. How do you format your drive and what does it do? Will some of my problems go away if I do this?
If you're not sure what the problem is, you might as well format your harddisk. I did it with an older pc and now it is running nice and smooth again. This is how you do it:
1) Start your computer with the bootdisk in it.
2) In the screen that appears you can choose a couple of options, the two most important are these options (or they look like it): Start the computer with cdrom support

For now, choose WITHOUT the cdromsupport.
3) You will get in a dosscreen like this:
A:\
I your harddisk is for example C, you will want to get to that drive. Type "C:\"
Then you will get to a screen like this one:
C:\>
Type "format c" (without the marks).
When the computer is finished with formatting you must restart your computer (let the bootdisk stay in it) and then choose "start the computer with cdromsupport".
Your computer will tell you what your cdrom letter is. Get to it in the same way as to "C" and type "setup" (of course, your windowscd must be in the cdromdrive to start the setup)
Hope this helps, I'm not that good with English, so I hope you know what you must do.
