NIC - everybody!

Post by misty »

Did anyone test speeds and performance with different NIC's????

3Com, Linksys, Realtek, any others???

I hear that some are "better", but is there any noticable change??

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Here's what I've tried.

I started out on a Asante's nic card and thought I had fried it.
So I change to a USB adapter and it choked me to death. :)
Then I tried the Realtek and it did ok.. but not good enough for me.
I later found out that there was nothing wrong with my Asante's Nic card and put it back in.. And I love it.

Word has it that the 3com is the best... but it's price tag seems to turn people away to the cheaper ones. ( it did me) :)

I've tried a 3com, a realtek, and a linksys.

Go with 3com, you get the name, and the support that comes with it.

I have a Realtek installed.
My cable provider put in a 3Com stating it would give me much better performance, but it didn't.
The Realtek was 3 times faster.
Go figure! *LOL*

NETGEAR. -nt-

Post by Idiot Savant »

I asked cablenut which was the best out there... he said the NetGear FA310 was the quickest in every speed test documented.
I picked one up for $12.00 on ebay.

My ping times dropped.
My d/l speed soared.

I recommend this card to ANYONE. And it sure beat the **** outta the Linksys Etherfast that used to reside on my 2nd PCI slot :D

I was using a SMC1211TX and I read this test of NIC's GUYS and went and bought a FA312 netgear Card... wow the Speeds improved now all I have to do is get rid of the retransmission and the 2+ sec delay and everything will be ok.. the Probs were there before I changed the NIC
But the review is good From Brian at DSL webserver .com :2cool:

P.S. I can NOW shut down my puter from windows... the SMC card would never let me.. always had to F8 and go to option 6 and turn the power off... the FA312 fixed that :D
