do you think this is too crazy ?

Post by crazyman »

I leave my pc,router, modem, switch,on all the time,365.I have been thinking lateley of putting some nice quiet cooling fan setup of some type for the router and the modem, they seem to get a bit warm, especially in this real warm weather.and I don't want to aircondition this room all the time.do you think thats over the edge?

the router and modem are designed to work without cooling systems. most electronical systems work fully up to temperatures of 125 degress. i leave my computer, router, and modem on 24/7/365. as long as the comptuer is cooled properly.. that is all you ahve to worry about

How do you plan on cooling the router and the modem? This should be interesting. :) It sure couldn't hurt by cooling or keeping them well ventilated.. Would you be blowing air on them or directing the heat away from the source?

X-files and Jack-in-the-box are two of my favorite things :)

I've thought about cooling my cable modem too. I have three small fans from a hard drive cooler I used to use. I was thinking about putting one of them on the modem, it does get hot. But I think Biketec is right about them being designed to operate without cooling, but what the hell, I think I'm gonna do it. :D

Hey Crazy, about your Crazy idea, I don't think its so crazy to want to cool the Modem and Router.
Heres a thought for ya, i drew it up because i couldn't think how to convey what i was envisioning with words
Image
Could market it and have it ripped off and remarketed by the thieves and it would be called the Microsoft internet device cooler
What do you think?

Make the box out of something cool like Oak, power the fan with a 12Volt ac adapter, and you could use a real nice brass floor grate for the grating, or if your real good wit the wood use Oak strips, Heck, send me $50 and i'll make ya one

If they are DC fans then you need DC current to run them, 12 volt DC could be obtained using
A: Car battery
B: 8 AA batteries
C: Spare PSU
D: Running wire into your PC
E: little ac power converter that plugs into wall and DC comes out the wire
F: Car Battery
G: Car Battery charger

I would go with E:
They cost about 4 bucks at radio shack
You might have one around from a calculator, walkman, pocket video game or such

You might also build your desk like an Air Hockey table, blow the heart away, dry underarms, Cookie crumbs in the keyboard would be a thing of the past and papers would just Glide across your desk.

Actually the neatest thing i saw was putting RAM in my brothers IMAC, above the CPU there is I think a 120mil, maybe bigger AC fan, real quiet that blows up, through the monitor and out the top, cools the whole dam thing, thinking one of them IMAC fans would be an awsome case fan

Go with the variable, then you can adjust the speed for a comfortable noise level
