Win98 Reg tweak

Post by Jteague »

I have been using this @Home cable service for awhile now and I downloaded and installed a reg tweak at the same time. I came to this site to look for any more impovements I could find. When I went to the reg tweaks for WIN98 it had several things on it that I do not have in my registry and I was wondering if I have to manually put those in or do I not even need to worry about them?

thanks

Win98 first edition 128MB pc 133, Duron 850, GF2 Pro 32MB, SBLive Value, and @Home cable
http://forums.speedguide.net/cgi-bin/op ... =993579864
TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 65535
Note: Under Windows 9x, if you have RWIN set to any other value, and the Analyzer reports 65535 you might need to install the MS Vtcp386 fix.
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\NetTrans\000n
(I have this but where it says "000n" I have 3 strings that are 0000, 0001, and 0002)
MaxMTU=1500 (My max is set at 7500)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP
DefaultRcvWindow="256960" (mine is at 373360)

DefaultTTL="64" (string var, range 1-255, use any number between 32 and 128) (mine is also at 64)
PMTUDiscovery="1" (I do nto have a PMTU string or value)

PMTUBlackHoleDetect="0" (string var, zero for optimal performance)
Tcp1323Opts="1" (I don't have either of these)
SackOpts="1" (Nor do I have this)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD\MSTCP\Parameters
MaxDupAcks="3" ( in here I have a "Default" No value set)

As you can see my settings that I actually do have are a lot different then what this site is saying is optimal and I have man more that are missing....

When you return do this:
Try these RWIN's (Default Rvc Window)
1 at a time in box on adjuster inside 4.2 on desktop. GlobalmaxTcpWindowSize-BLANK
Save to registry at bottom and reboot each time you change value in adjuster
Check analyzer here at Speedguide to be sure you have RWIN in, thank you
Try: 64240, 513920, 522680, 524176, or 531440

See 2nd page of help page at bootom for Tips

Try your speed at http://www.pcpitstop.com click on internet at end of test :)

This is all before the help page.......I tried to do what the help page was saying however, I didn't have a lot of the values or strings in my reg that were needed. So do I need to add these other strings and values or just forget them and go on like I have been. Don't get me wrong, I have great download and upload speed right now but more is always better :)

7500, m the highest it goes is 1500, you can have it set to anything above that but it will read as 1500, nothing to do with speed, do this please:
Please click in my signature where it says Test your tweak here, then:
At top where it says edit click and select, Select all,
Then go back to same edit button at top, click and select copy.
Come back to Speedguide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Please X out your IP address, Thank you.
Please include OS & system specs in your reply :) :)
