Help!!! I messed up again!

Post by crazy »

ok Lobo,
I reinstalled windows and my cable was working great.
Then I installed the cablenut patch, normal then fast 9x .
It still dies after so long.
Uninstalled cable nut and its messed up still.Reinstalled windoze again and set cable up,now it works fine.
The cable nut patch increases my speed by about 70%.I go from 95k without patch to 315k with patch in my regular server. Is there anything I can do to boost my speed without making it stop in the middle of a download?after this happens i get a blue screen when i go to restart, then signal out of range.

Definetly work with Lobo on that page but
If this is 98SE then http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q243/1/99.ASP
Also there are two settings if your using this as a server in the cablenut you can set in 98orSE 9x in general
MaxConnections at 1000 to start and work your way down to as low as 300
and set
Size/Small/Medium/Large to 3
This is related to BSOD and not enough buffer space in Socks. The error generally comes up as 10055 or 100055 something like that..

i bet thats alot faster downloads then what i get in hotline
hotline you have your own server based on your upload speeds, like mine at a friends work is 768/768 so speeds are good when i download
but we only have 6 download spots to keep it moving quick
kind of a frustrating place if you dont got the hook ups...

oh my cable took a poop on me
going to install that win patch ...

so well see how long it lasts.

rwin is 578160
Lobo

Post by Lobo »

I'm guessing now try lowering it to 524176, after that I don't know, unless your on 98/SE Run system file checker to see if you are missing any files, see help :)
Lobo

Post by Lobo »

And take that 32 and 16 out of those twoes at bottom of adjuster, it will use default setting, click save to registry, and reboot
If that fixes it change RWIN back :)

ok i tried changing RWIN again
I called Cox@home and they went through a bunch of crap with me that i already have done ,like rubilding the tcp/ip stack .
They came to the conclusion that I have a virus,I busted a gut laughing and I dont think he liked that too much..
Anyway I changed the RWIN and ill see if it does any better.
Thanks for your time lobo and whatever the other guys name was,I know its a pain in the ass for you guys and you dont have to be helping no one if you dont want to.I give you guys props.

well when i didnt have the patch installed it worked great but it was slow.
thats why i thought it was the patch.
Lobo

Post by Lobo »

Heck, uninstall the patch thru add/remove in control panel, then download speedpatch at www.speedcorp.net and try that one and it hhas adjuster like ours to change RWIN :)

didnt work......
now i have no patches installed and my registry is back to default when i reinstalled windows and i have no software installed,no firewalls nothing.
and now it dont work again.
I would call microsoft but theyll say i have a virus..
I ran a debug before i installed windows and all that good stuff,I even cleared my CMOS and redid my BIOS .
I guess i cant have broadband on my PC .
Im going to try it on my other PC and see if that works.
If it helps any im using an USB linksys ethernet adapter because all my ethernet PCI cards conflict.

Well I think I finally got it !!!
I swapped the cable that COX gave me with a cable from my old DSL modem (straight) and ive had it going for over 8 hours now!!!
Why would this be? Why would cox give out crap cables that are junk and then go and tell me that my windoze install is fxcked up and i have a virus!!!!
I dont read my ass off for no reason !!!
Well I just thought id post this in case someone else has the same problem, itd be a good idea to trash that crap cable and get a new one!!
thanks lobo and dannjr for helping me out with this stuff!!

So whats up, did you follow below link to install adjuster, are you back up to speed, if you are home networked the same patches should be on all your computers, different RWIN's though, tell me the CPU rating and I will give you some RWIN's :)

yeah i did what the page said
and i was going good for about 14 hours then it crapped on me again (still using cablenut)
im going to reset my CMOS and flip flop my pci cards an change network cards from this usb to pci and see if thats the prob.

obviously its not the patch,i realized that after i restored my shxt and let it go for 8 hours and it died.
i tried it on 6 different pcs (3 of my own)and it worked fine, all have dlink pci ethernet cards.
i have had more than my fare share of troubles with this goddamn motherboard with conflicts with every soundblaster card ive tried now i get cable and all of a sudden after i reinstall windoze my network card is conflicting.
obviously no one knows what the problem is ive tried about 6 different forums and they give me answers but nothing works.ive tried the same things over and over again.
lobo, you yourself said my patch was set up correctly.
i think my problem is way beyond that.
like i said i am going to try my dlink pci card instead of my usb card and see if thats the problem because it works great on my other 3 PC's and they have the exact same software installed except for the drivers.
at this point i am very fxckin frustrated and nothing is working out
for some reason this may sound dumb but i changed my cables around and it seems more stable than what it was, maybe its just me.
thanks you guys for waysting your time with this bullshxt,i guess im the only one with this problem or id probobly have it fixed by now.I have contaced linksys about this situation and of couse they say i have a virus.Kinda hard for me to have a virus when i ran a low level format and debugged my hard disks, but you know these tech supports are.
i had to notepad this because my cable pooped on me while i was typing this.
heres the blue screens i get when i try an restart:
fatal exeption OE the current blah blah blah
01CF:BFF9DFFF
AND
fatal exception OD the blah blah blah
17B7:00008FB3

You know NIC must be on IRQ of it's own (by itself) :)
