Lan chat help

I would like to talk to my dad thru our network. I heard of a lan chat program or something were you can send message thru like aim. Could someone recommend me a good lan chat program and tell me how to configure it. I've had problems in the past and I have no clue on how to set it up...

just use AIM you can get it at www.aol.com
it will work for what you what to do. Have him install it to.
