I can't even think about a new build

Post by Easto »

I always like to plan (and dream) ahead. I keep track of different component prices and I'm always out looking for that great deal. The problem is that now with memory and SSD prices going up they way they are it sort of takes the fun out of thinking about my next build. How long do you think these prices are going to remain? Is there any relief in the mid or long term horizon? I just can't seem myself building a new PC when 64gb or more of memory is going to cost me $400+.

Prices are out of whack, I would wait a few months. I think in 3-6 months it will normalize, but what do I know.

DDR4 is not going as crazy as the DDR5 modules. 32gb of DDR5 is over $400. Yikes? I don't know how someone can justify 64GB of DDR5 for their rig, we're talking in the $750 range.

Yeah, buying DDR5 at these prices does not make sense, that's why people are building more DDR4 PCs.

Wow, a Ryzen 9 with 64mb of Ram and a 2tb & 4tb M.2 is around $2k. Yikes! It's a good thing I'm not considering a new gaming GPU.

Even 64gp of DDR4 PC3200 Ram is $489. How does anyone afford a pro level build without taking out a loan?

Hmm, this is getting ridiculous. SSDs and RAM will have to go down in price sometime imho.

It's a shame but it looks like "timing" the memory and SSD market is going to be like "timing" the stock market. You try to get a good deal and buy at a low price and then continue to see it go lower and lower.

Storage prices are not that drastic of a difference though, SSD prices did jump up but are still less than $100 difference for a PC build. DDR prices, otoh are ridiculous.
