Replacing car stereo

Post by Humboldt »

Mu sugar mamma gave me an old Alpine car stereo at work today.
Want to swap it out for the original tape/radio in my '93 Pathfinder.

Any suggestions?
Read about mounting kits and DIN tools.

Would the old mounting kit (assuming there is one) for the Pathfinder work for the new unit, or are they just for aftermarket swaps?

Never done this before, but I'd never fixed broken agitator dogs on a washer or drive belt on a dryer and pulled those off, so I've got my hopes up.

Thanks.

ye,you will need an aftermarket mounting kit,a harness adaptor, and an antenna adaptor,I like "Metra" kits & harnesses,I have used this brand in my job for 25 years.

kit- Metra 99-7477 http://www.metraonline.com/part/99-7477
harness-Metra 70-1763 http://www.metraonline.com/part/70-1763
antenna adaptor- Metra 40-NI11 http://www.metraonline.com/part/40-NI11

getting these 3 parts will make your life considerably better when installing the alpine,if you ever get a new aftermarket unit you will be able to re-use these parts over again.

the nissan antenna in the vehicle will not plug into the alpine without the adaptor,
the colors on the female 70-1763 harness will matchup color for color on the alpine and any modern aftermarket unit, piece of cake, then that will plug into car.
the nissan pathfinder radio is an odd shape,so you will need the kit for sure too.

let me know if you have any other questions.

all these should be available at Crutchfield or amazon or ebay or where ever.

I used to use crutchfield for radio mounting parts and information. Haven't used them in a while but they were really good back in the day.
