Netalyzer, Network Buffer is high! How can I improve it? How can I get optimal ping!

Post by Lamim Rashid »

Code: Select all

Network buffer measurements (?): Uplink 1900 ms, Downlink 4200 ms –
We estimate your uplink as having 1900 ms of buffering. This is quite high, and you may experience substantial disruption to your network performance when performing interactive tasks such as web-surfing while simultaneously conducting large uploads. With such a buffer, real-time applications such as games or audio chat can work quite poorly when conducting large uploads at the same time.

I do a lot of online gaming and would like to get optimal ping. Have been reading around threads but alot of it is confusing and would appreciate help xD. As for the network buffer I only saw one thread tackling the issue, but I didnt understand any of it! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just let it go. If your ISP isn't providing the speed that you are expecting- change your plan.

I am getting the speed I am supposed to be getting, in fact I'm getting a little bit more then what our plan is suppose to give, however latency wise it isn't the greatest. However where I live (Near Toronto, Ontario, Canada) I have very few ISP's I can choose from. The house I live in right now is a new house and was built a year ago, and the only ISP's that offer (decent) service to us is Bell or Rogers, but bell doesn't offer fiber like rogers in my area so roger's happened to be our best option. Download and upload speed wise it's pretty good, it's just the latency could be a lot better. I am also using their third best plan and dont want to pay more then what we are already paying. (50mb/s down, 5mb/s up which is more then enough). So I am looking for anyway to improve my internet latency. Any help is appreciated thanks.

add a new DWORD value (32-bits)and rename it TcpAckFrequency and set value to 1
add a new DWORD value (32-bits)and rename it TCPNoDelay and set value to 1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > MSMQ > Parameters
add new DWORD value (32-bits)and rename it TCPNoDelay and set value to 1, Hit OK

add a new DWORD value (32-bits)and rename it TcpAckFrequency and set value to 1
add a new DWORD value (32-bits)and rename it TCPNoDelay and set value to 1

add new DWORD value (32-bits)and rename it TCPNoDelay and set value to 1, Hit OK
Okay, I did all this but there were a lot of things under interfaces, so i added those changes to the ones with my ip. It's probably cause I have used a number of wireless adapters on this computer before switching to wired. I did a few ping tests and so far I haven't seen any changes though.

Ah okay, I don't mind calling my ISP, but what do I tell them/ask them?

Is there anything else I can do to improve my network? What else can I do to improve my network?

Thanks for all your input!

I wouldn't worry about hop 4 on that trace... Some routers do not reply to ICMP pings, and/or give very low priority to pings. So, if you're constantly getting no replies ( * * * ) for that hop, it simply means it is not responding to pings, move on and look at other hops. All I see that's wrong with this trace is the the big latency increase at hop 11, and I'm not too trilled about Cogent bandwidth, they have some bad history and quality track record.

About the network buffer... A large buffer is only a problem if you're experiencing packet loss, and not using modern congestion control algorithms, such as CTCP.
