We've had a long standing need at work for version/revision control of engineering files. One suggestion (other than my own of "just to your ^&%#^**% job correctly!") was to implement the same kind of mechanism(s) used by software devs. Problem is, my wealth of experience with this adds up to a grand total of nothing.

Both come from trusted/smart developers and seem to have a good amount of acceptance. My questions are more of a difficulty of deployment and use type.

Anybody have experience or input?

What design software you using? Most of them have their own optional module for data management.
Example...one of my clients uses SolidWorks....and here is their PDM module.

We do use SolidWorks as well as AutoCAD. I called up Dassault and it looks like the versions we have include EnterprisePDM (yay!). Now I just need to see if AutoCAD Vault (their PDM) is accessible with what we have.

Thanks, brah!
