Sudden abbundance of ads popping up?

Post by rickoic »

I'm suddenly, (well for about the past 3 days) been getting these ads pop up on my computer when I'm browsing.

Right now I've got an ad along the left side of the screen with a gray square and a capitol 'T' in it with the x to close it out on the right side of the ad. It reads:

and about 10 others related to Internet, but they change depending on what web site I'm viewing at the time. Sometimes they have a disclaimer that they are not affiliated with whatever web page I'm viewing.
Very annoying. Anyone have any idea how I can stop them? Some I've seen what web site they come from and I've been able to add that address to my restricted web address file and that's stopped them to some degree, but others I haven't been able to find an address to do this with. Sometimes they also show up along the top, or bottom of the screen.

Tks
Rick

Edited: also I've noticed that my IE is having trouble closing, with an error message saying it's having trouble closeing.

I use firefox with https://adblockplus.org/en/firefox added on,I do,and I never get any ads on any site.

they are both free.

I hate IE,it's bloated & slow,lots of ads,and just a pain in the a$$ in general IMO.

Probably picked up some adware...probably Conduit or Babylon
First...clean the system. Download/install/update/scan with MalwareBytes, and ADWCleaner.
Follow up with a scan from MBAR, and TDSSKiller
Those get rid of "common" stuff, report what they find to see if further programs are needed to scan..

And yeah get AdBlock Plus....but use Chrome! :D
