router question

i have a cisco/linksys WRT160n router

if i hook my laptop straight to it my speed

Yeah. You're going from wired to wireless. Looks like you might be on G instead of N speeds. How is your router configured (defaults or customized settings)? Also, is the firmware up to date?

ya i check the firmware it is the latest.

router is on auto the ps3 is g so it needs the g band

i knew their would be a drop in speed just didnt think it would be that much

Fairly average....back when I was running G wireless the max I'd get was around 18 or 19 megs...usually in the mid teens depending on other factors in your home. 18 megs seems to be the average "real world speed" of G.

I have the same problem... direct internet is fast (20mbits) but over wlan it drops to about 5mbits ... i have the linksys wrt54g router. :( I guess I need a wireless N router. :)
