Windows 7 Starter

Anyone knows where I can get a copy of a Windows 7 Starter? I'm replacing a netbook hard drive. Used the delete ei.cfg from my retail Pro disk but can only get home basic as the lowest windows.

Why would you want such a crippled OS? I wouldnt install anything less than Home Professional.

It's what came with the netbook. It didn't come with any disk and can't access the recovery partition on a dead drive. Not mine either so not spending >$100 for a new OS.

Ah. I don't see starter for sale anywhere, wonder if its a pre-installed only type thing.

AFAIK, you cannot buy Win 7 Starter, it's made for OEMs of netbooks and cheapo computers. The Win 7 Starter DVD ISO is available at MSDN though if have a subscription.

Problem solved, turns out starter is a 32-bit only os and I was trying to use my 64-bit disk. Just delete the ei.cfg from the 32-bit and starter comes up now.
