How is my setup and configuration?

Returning overseas subscriber back again.

I like to firstly say that I am happy that you can cater for everyone around the world, not just US based.

Here is the progress/story

I have just upgraded my cable connection once again, and I thought I would check up on here to see if my setup and configuration is all good for what I am getting.

I was previously on 17Mb/256Kb, then I upgraded to 38Mb/1.2Mb and now I have upgraded to 120Mb/2.4Mb.

All has been good throughout my whole speed upgrades and getting 90% of advertised speed. But of course with cable it's different then adsl.

1. What is your advertised internet speed ?
120Mb downstream and 2.4Mb upstream (120/2.4)

2. What actual transfer speed do you get?
Doing a speed test from speedtest.net I get on average around 110Mb/2.4Mb. Downloading from a major site I get around 13Mb. And torrenting I average around 3-7Mb.

3. Who is your Internet Provider (ISP), and what type of connection do you have ?
Telstra Bigpond and Cable.

4. What are your current settings ?

My ISP has supplied me with a Cisco EPC3925 Modem/router. I bridged it (crap modem/router) and connected up my own router, a Netgear WNDR3700v2.

You can try some of the Advanced settings and playing with ToS/QoS, however, if you're already getting close to the advertised speed and are happy with the connection it may be a mute point.

I wish I could get a 120Mbps residential broadband in our neck of the woods.

I will do that.

I usually hit 116 most of the time when downloading locally, so that is 90+%.

In 4 years time (if the same government gets re-elected) I will be seeing Fibre Optic 1Gb/400Mb.
