Windows 7/Vista Desktop Icons Appearance

Post by Qui-Gon John »

This may be a dumb question, but I cannot find the answer anywhere, Google searches and looking at various settings.

My (2) Windows 7 computers, the desktop icons look like normal icons and if you click them once they get selected/highlighted, that's it.

But on several other peoples computers I've seen lately, if you click the icon on their desktop, not only is it selected/highlighted, but you get a small box in the upper left hand corner of the icon, like a "check box". What is causing this and how can it be changed back to the previous state, as I indicated mine is?

Thanks!

The article mentions in Window Explorer, but does this also affect the desktop icons?

Thanks, just tried it. I wonder if some Windows Update was pushing that change as I have seen a lot more computers configured that way in the last few weeks.
