Seem to have Win XP Twice on my HD

Post by Lurch »

Hi,

When I start up, I'm asked which OS to use and it shows Win XP Home Edition SP3 twice, then it goes to the 1st one unless I select one. What, if anything, should I do to correct this? It seems to take longer to load Win XP too.

I had to re-installed Win XP the other day, and I may have done something wrong. I think I should have repaired Win XP instead.

Thanks in advance for any help with this. :)

When you get in...just follow this direction:

Right click my computer, properties, advanced system setup, Startup and properties settings, click the edit button on the Default operating system and just delete the second string.. save and exit.. restart and you should go right into the first one :)

Thank you! That seems to have taken care of it. There were 2 entries in there.

Do you know why the volume level of my speakers is very low? I adjusted the volume levels to the maximum and I can still hardly hear anything out of my speakers.

Well sound drivers installed at all or are they generic from Win7's install, that was my question. Otherwise there are so many things to adjust once you get the drivers/audio controller loaded.

Hi,

I still don't have enough volume on my speakers to hear them. Can someone please tell me what to do about this? After I installed a new Win XP, I installed the Dell Driver Cd, but it doesn't do anything on my older Dell Optiplex GX240 PC. CD is from my Dell Dimension 3000. I went to Dell's website but offhand didn't find out how to get drivers.

You may have to adjust more than just the master volume level. Go into control panel and look for a sound or speaker icon, or something similar. I'm running windows 7 on this PC so my options are different from yours. You're looking for sound adjustments for line in, CD audio, etc. Once you find those adjust the sliders for more volume and see if that fixes your problem. Also if these are powered external speakers make sure the power pack is plugged in.
I don't know the same things you don't know.
