Students Sent Home for Wearing U.S. Flags on Cinco de Mayo

Post by Prey521 »

No, this isn't a joke unfortunately. What's wrong with people nowadays when another country's supposed holiday takes precedence over your own flag? When did it become a law that we have to acknowledge other countries holidays to the point where people are offended if we wear something that represents the US? Cinco De Mayo is a BS holiday that's not even really celebrated in Mexico! That schools administration should be ashamed of themselves and I'm glad that those kids stood up to those morons. :irate:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/05/06/ca ... latestnews
Administrators at a California high school sent five students home on Wednesday after they refused to remove their American flag T-shirts and bandannas -- garments the school officials deemed "incendiary" on Cinco de Mayo.

The five teens were sitting at a table outside Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Calif., on Wednesday morning when Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez asked two of them to remove their American flag bandannas, one of their parents told FoxNews.com. The boys complied, but were asked to accompany Rodriguez to the principal's office.

The five students -- Daniel Galli, Austin Carvalho, Matt Dariano, Dominic Maciel and Clayton Howard -- were then told they must turn their T-shirts inside-out or be sent home, though it would not be considered a suspension. Rodriguez told the students he did not want any fights to break out between Mexican-American students celebrating their heritage and those wearing American flags.

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...

There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

What a funny thing for Mr.Roosevelt to say. Considering that most our holidays, traditions, philosophies, religions, political structure and language comes from different civilizations. The American way of life, the American dream, the American spirit is a convergence of many.

And I thought that the girl who got 2-week suspension last year for taking a birth-control pill in high school (with her mother's approval) was ridiculous linky...
If she had been caught high on LSD, heroin or another illegal drug, she found, she would have been suspended for five days. Taking her prescribed birth-control pill on campus drew the same punishment as bringing a gun to school would have.

I agree. The diverse many standing together as one is what makes this such a great nation.

We can annex Arizona and take on Puerto Rico without having to change the flag.

There no need to wait four years. People like you make ridiculous claims all the time. I am not going to keep a tally on these things, especially when they are so obviously senseless. Now if you can provide some credible proof instead of just going around hollering nonsense then I might be willing to listen.

I just posted that to see what kind of responses I would get.

The article states bandanas are banned.

Seems like they could have sent them home just for that.
Although It does not say in the article.

Pretty crazy for them to be sent home though.

Fox is well known for being disingenuous. Every Foxnews story should be approach with increased skepticism. Or more preferably an alternative news source should be used.

As far as we know the student could have been sent home of other reasons, we don't really know the whole story.

To be blunt though, Freedom of Expression is squashed constantly, and it has been for a long time, in various different public and government organization. The only reason this is upsetting now is because it involves a foreign holiday and the America flag.

Fox did a good thing. It revealed the mentality of those who would change the landscape of America, one assinine step at a time.

When Latinos bust their buns to come to America, you'd think they'd be thrilled to see the symbol that draws hundreds of thousands of legals and illegals every year.

Beware.

Nothing new has been revealed, Sarahnn, just something more appealing to your taste.
