Opticle Mouse And Gaming

Post by Fish »

I'm thinking about getting an opticle mouse because I heard it's smoother and I hate cleaning the guck out of my mouse every week to keep it smooth. But I heard there were some problems with theh opticle mouse such as:
Opticle mouse is not accurate if you move it too fast???
Also.. Does anyone have the 3com mouse pad? I'd also like some comments about this!

If anyone has an opticle mouse or knows anything about this please post your replies thanks!

I have an optical mouse which I like very much. But, I have problems with it in TFC. It freezes up sometimes. So I keep another mouse handy when it happens. It doesn't seem to happen in other games. Overall, i recommend them(get optical with 5 buttons), but really you should try it out for yourself and make sure you can return it if you don't like it. It takes a little while to get used to for gaming.

Hi Fish

I have the MS Intelli Explorer and it's the best mouse I've used. There are absolutly no problems if you move it too fast. The only thing you have to worry about is if your mouse pad is reflective, because the laser won't work.

Other than that it's great, especially with five buttons.

I have 2 Intellimouse Explorers... and will never go back to a regular "ball" mouse. It took about 2 days to get used to, but it is by far more accurate and just a better mouse. The 5 buttons will really help in games like TFC.

i have the MS optical mouse with 5 butons.....it rocks...i've had no problems with it...its way more accurate then a regular mouse

now if they came out with a cordless version of the optical mouse that would be great

I also have the same mouse, it works great, and you'll NEVER want to go back to a ball mouse again, seriously. Word of advice, if you do buy a mouse pad, make sure its not liht in color, the optical lens works better on dark surfaces.

I have a Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse. I dont care for more buttons. And you will never move it that fast in games, you have to move it really fast. and to fix this problem in microsoft mice: install the software, click start, programs, microsoft hardware, mouse and intellipoint then click on the pointer options tab click on accelerate... and set it to low. this should fix that problem. I highly recomend buying an optical mouse for gaming.

@home: MS Intellimouse Explorer (the silver moster). I love it! I had to get used to it after using 2-button-smaller-than-your-palm style mice. The only "problem" I had so far is that my desk surface is slick...almost like clearcoat, which doesn't work well with skin. So I have tried to use various pads to keep my wrist, thumb, and pinkie finger off the desk. The mouse doesn't glide as well on cloth mouse pads as it does on the desk. I tried a hard pad and the mouse slid on that the best, but the pad had a dark logo on a white backround which made the mouse do strange things. Now that I have seen that link to the Ratpadz I will most likely try that out. Cordless optical mouse? Image the battery drain. When you get low on battery power a cordless mouse becomes worse than the cheapest piece of crap ever made for playing games.

@work: Dexxa optical mouse. It is the lowest price optical mouse I have seen, but with that low price comes some problems. It is only PS2...no usb. Every once in a while it goes a little haywire and the cursor will jerk around until you move the mouse. The best feature is the four ultra smooth contact pads on the bottom of the mouse. I swear it glides better than the MS optical mouse.

I use the MS Trackball Explorer, it is optical, ball is smooth and big for very decent fragging. Has four buttons, and scroll wheel. It is a very good device for gaming, internet, and has a small footprint, ie: don't have to move it, or need a mouse pad. :D

Tech Trivia...

I've heard the PS/2 Mouse refresh rate is at 40Hz and the USB ports for Mice refrech is at 200Hz.

Any truth to this?
dreww71

Post by dreww71 »

yes, that is true, but you can increase the refresh rate for a ps/2 with a rate adjuster program. I increased my refresh rate to 120hz.

Screw ratpadz, get a FUnc pad... wwww.FUnc.net, they have 2 surfaces, one that replicates and owns the 3M PMS pad and one that owns the everglide pad, all in 1! bit expensive, only con they have on all the reviews done.

intellimouse explorer:

buy it, u wont be dissapointed,

fps - only thing that u will notice it lacks is the ability to strafe rolling the ball fast form side to side

because once u lift an optical mouse off the surface, it stops

I've had the Intellimouse Explorer for about 2 weeks now. Works killer. Won't ever go back to the ol' rubber ball. 5 buttons......how can you go wrong.

I've had my optical mouse (microsoft) for about 6 months now and I'll never go back...I've always hated when the old style mice would start to stutter because of crud buildup in the wheel well of the mouse...

I Have A Logitech Optical Mouse Also. It Works Just Fine. I Don't Need A Smoother Surface That Will Make My Mouse Glide More Than I Need It To. If I Wanted It To Glide That Smooth I Wouldn't Need A Mouse Pad, I Would Use My Desk. When I Play TFC Or Counter-Strike For That Matter I Get Better Movement And Not Get A Single Freeze. I Could've Got Two Logitech Mouse's At The Price Of A Microsoft Itellimouse. I Would Have No Use For Those Extra Buttons As I Have All My Keys Bound To Where I Want Them. So No Problem There.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION HERE...

do you use a low sensitivity in games? Do you want accuracy? If so, you must use a wheel. Not optical.

ok lets set the record straight , i have had the explorer for a year now , and yea its one of the best on the market , but ... and this is a BIG BUTT heh

it DOES lose its tracking if you move it fast , people can say it doesnthappen , or claim that you wont move it that fast , but i play q3 ra3 and i tell ya what man , i move it fast , you can believe it , with the rocket jumps that go on and having to swing 180 instantly to pull out the rail gun and hit in mid air , you DO go that fast , and i noticed now that im getting better and moving fast its not tracking as well , i have to think about how fast i move it on rj's or it wont do it cause the pointer didnt move it all the way down

so now im back on my boomslang 2000 and let me say , this is the best mouse for gaming on the market , it feels awkward , the bottons are funny , but anyone that uses many mice will tell you its the smoothes moving , most accurate tracking mouse period , but persoanly i like the feel and everything about the explorer , i would still use it if it would track faster , but it doesnt , so im forced to use the BS 2000

i dont even know why , the laser samples faster thent he BS :\ well in theory anyway

so choice depends on what you play i suppose , if i wasnt a q3 junkie i would still use my explorer , but since i need total accuracy no matter how fasti move, its the BS 2000 ( for now) good luck with your chioce ...

I personally have the Intellimous Explorer with the 5 buttons. I use it on my desk surface with no mousepad. I'm a bigtime Quake2 person and can rail a person with no problems, as my sensitivity is set about in the middle of the slider. It DOES lose tracking if you move fast, but I personally think that if I am moving THAT fast in a game, I'd get tired. LOL But for accuracy and whatnot, there's no difference I've found, other than it's easier to move the mouse across a smooth surface and the wheel doesn't get cluttered up. Great mouse and I highly recommend it.

If anyone doubts the accuracy, I'll meet em in an XCTF Q2 server and we'll find out. :)

I have tray a Logitech Mouse man and Microsoft intellimouse, but the sensibility of Razer Boomslang is dominating!

i have used a MS WheelMouse Optical USB and a Kinston Optical USB mouse and i must say hands down that the MS mouse is 30 times better. The Kinston will skip if you move it to fast witch has got me killed more times than i care to count on UT. But the MS Mouse Has not skiped on me once. I used a 3M Precise Mousing Surface on both mice.

ok dude the not cleaning part is great but i had more control over the aim with a standard mouse oh and remeber that the optical mouse uses more avalibale ram because it must keep track of its possition
so unless your runin a serious processer and like 256 ram id stay with the ball and ive tried track balls cheapie mouse optical all that crap and the best ive found is your standard microsoft 2 button with a wheel

Hi All!I have the MS Intelli Explorer and there are no problems as long as you dont move it too fast. I can´t enable advanced settings for Pointer Speed, then I can´t control the movement off the pointer. I´ve been in contact with Microsoft and they told me that there where many people that complained about this specific thing and that there was nothing too do about it!?

I have the intellimouse optical... and i absolutly love it. no problems what so ever. you dont even need to install the drivers if your gonna use the mouse for the basic operations. the drivers just enable the side 2 buttons. i suggest the intellimouse optical over the explorer just becuase the simple fact that optical is cheaper than explorer and the only physical difference is that the 2 extra buttons are on the left on the explorer. where as on the optical one is on the left one is on the right. i like it that way anyway. any questions email me jboggs@socal.rr.com

i have the MS inteillimouse otical with a ratzpad. it first crapped out on me. i would move the curse and would had a sec lag. this was the 33% faster one. got MS to send me a free replacement.

i must say it works alot better than the mouse with ball. but playing games liek cs, when i move the mosue too fast from side to side, the curse would stay in the middle.

i borrowed a logtitech optical mouse on the ratpadz and never had that prob. So, im gonna go pick one up.

you crazy guys...ever used a boomslang mouse from razor? ohh so sweet. I tried an optical, but it was so wild, it wouldnt track well for sniping or anything (and it was that microsoft one you all are praising). I got my boomslang, jack up the sensitivity, and its smooth as a babys butt. check it out at razorzone.com
