Post by ARS »

I was running a Connection Watcher, and turned off everythng that access the internet, and ran it...
These ports were opened:
2170
641
135
137
138
139
1025
1026
2170
137
138
1026

Now are these ports ok to have opened? And how do I close them etc..?
I have Zone Alarm Pro, and running Windows98.

Thanks,

Anthony

Please read this about network bondage. This will close port 137 and I believe 138 and 139. http://grc.com/su-bondage.htm

The others should already be closed if your running ZA Pro. Check your security settings and check your programs to see if for some reason they have been given server rights. :)

You should try typing from a command prompt:
netstat -a -n
It will show what ports are listening. Do it right after boot so you have no programs open.
Do secure your bindings according to the directions at the link above.
I can give you some links as to what ports are used by:
Suspect Port List(2kmaro)
Port List
Port Numbers and Services Database
Port Knowledgebase
Port List Links
Make sure you reboot because sometimes the port stayes open after the connection is closed for some time.
Good luck :)
