Windows OS question

Post by Uberwilhelm »

Howdy all

I'm thinking about Vista premium home 64 bit for my new machine because I want to drop in 8GB RAM. It's so cheap right now so why not? My question is, if I'm planing on making this a gaming pc, any reason I shouldn't use this OS?

Many thanks

I'd load the RC of Windows 7 on it now and then purchase final when it comes out.. no sense in wasting the money for Vista 64bit at this point when Win7 is so close.

at this point you should be ok as there are plenty of drivers to get for 64bit... go for it.

Unless you have disposable cash....with Windows 7 so much "zippier" than Vista, I'd hold off. If you don't have much to install, do the Win7 RC now...and reload when the official comes out. Less than 6 months til it's out, I wouldn't waste time/money on Vista.

I used to live by the old rule of never get a new OS until the first service pack. That doesn't still stand?

no and thats why its a "old rule" that was something people adopted with XP and well yeah it needed SP1 for Vista but with Win7 the RC runs better than Vista does on SP2 :D

I follow that for my clients networks, but for home...I don't mind pushing ahead a bit.
