Set your Modem's MTU to 1492, MSS 1452, reboot and post new TCP Analyzer.

What makes you: "...waking up in the morning so excited about & wanna FLY out of the door ?"
Hi. When I connect directly to my modem (no router) and run the analyzer test.....my MTU value is 1492 and MSS is 1452.Rollingstone wrote:Set your Modem's MTU to 1492, MSS 1452, reboot and post new TCP Analyzer.
However when I connect my Netgear router w/ the modem and run the same analyzer test....my MTU value dips to 1452 and MSS to 1412.
When I was connected to my modem directly, I did check the MTU, MSS settings and they were the values you had recommended above.
My guess is that the router is changing them.
Can this be adjusted/corrected somehow?
This is the 1st time I have ever used a router with my connection so I'm kind of lost here.
Thanks for your help.

Is this a known issue with routers.....where the MTU value is set @ 1452 (even though the modem + router MTU value settings are @ 1492)??
Also any other adjustments with the TCPOptimizer or are these settings the best they can get?

Check your ISP's website to see if there is any updated firmware for your router/modem.where the MTU value is set @ 1452 (even though the modem + router MTU value settings are @ 1492)??

My guess is that MTU is limited by your modem & router !Netgear WNR3500 router

I just upgraded my DSL from 1.5 Mb/s to 3.0 Mb/s (to be completed in a couple of days).
I'm assuming that I'm going to need NEW TCPOtimizer settings. However when I run the analyzer test again.....should I do it with my current configuration (modem + router) or just connected directly to the modem (NO router)?

Connect directly to the modem and post TCP Analyzer report.

Netgear support told me that the 40 byte difference is probably header data.Rollingstone wrote:My guess is that MTU is limited by your modem & router !
Also when I run the analyzer tests, I get the following message under MTU:
"MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings

So you can double the RWIN to 64952.I just upgraded my DSL from 1.5 Mb/s to 3.0 Mb/s (to be completed in a couple of days).
