Fios modem/router working with a switch

Post by Ballistic8 »

Guys ihave a problem.

I have a Fios modem/router down stairs in my media closet. and is running wireless and wired to 2 ports. One to my home office and the other one to our media room... Now in my media room I have a ps3, xbox 360 and a Wii, All of which I want to hard wire. The port coming out of the wall is a Cat5e port. I was told all I needed was a "Switch" to split the signal to the 3systems. So the geek squad guy at Best buy told me to get a switch he picked out. I did.. Kinda cheep.. Ask if anything need to be configured.. and he said no. I hooked it up correctly and the none of the systems will contect to the internet. the ps3 finds a IP address but will not conect.. Please help me!!

Verizon's Modem has a built in Router.. So you have to use it. So i guess it looks like this.

Modem >>>> Router >>>> Switch >>>> PC

I took my laptop up to the room and pluged it in.. and nothing also.. Is it because the switch is after the router in the other room? I'm getting pissed off.. I need to get this cleared up and i'm running out of ideas. It picks up a IP address but will not connect to the net.

well.. I got it... and the switch was not the ticket. I had to use a my old Linksys router.

I went to the Linksys set up page and turned off the wireless and changed the IP address so it was not matching the Verizon one. the release and renewed the IP address. and it worked..

if your fios router was set to use a 192.168.x.x ip on the inside you should not need to have the linksys.

I would double check your config. Perhaps you do not have dhcp on in the fiso router? I know for a fact you can have more computers behind that fios router.
