(CNN) — The price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline ticked upward by 0.4 cents Saturday to a national average of $1.660, breaking an 86-day streak of decreases, the American Automobile Association said.

During the consecutive days of decreases, prices fell $2.199, or 57 percent, the association said.

The current national average is 59.6 percent off the record price of $4.114, which AAA reported last July 17. Gasoline was last near the current national average price on February 23, 2004, when the national average was $1.66.

You're aware that Opec is going to cut production?

Yeah I heard a while back they were which is something we should put some political pressure against if possible. The purpose of them cutting is to stabilize the price which is fine cause its almost good where its at but we shouldn't allow it to go back up over 2$/gallon.

Like we could stop it.

The Saudi's would like to stablize the price at 75 dollars a barrel. The rest of Opec would like it a lot more than that.

Some political pressure in the right ways would help it stay low with certain countries..not to mention the usage is still way low and dropping even if the price is low which helps. We still need to find ways to get away from oil which is what OPEC doesn't want..which is kinda stupid on their part to raise the prices cause then it forces people to go back and look at the alternatives.

Or they figure, alternatives are coming out soon anyway, better get as much for it as they can now, before the alternatives hit.

yeah which kinda makes it a stupid act to drop production when usage is already down. Driving prices back up will not help usage amounts thats for sure... From what I've read even if OPEC drops production 2million barrels a day the usage will be still low and the price will likely fall a little more. Russia may not cut production either which will help the markets drive prices lower at least we hope.

Usage amounts can only drop so far if the fuel is needed.

With gas prices higher in many other countries around the world, putting any kind of meaningful pressure would not only be useless, but it would make us look like bullies, and that could come back to bite us in the long run.

lol if I gave my opinion on what I really think he will argue it no matter what so yeah..its not worth the effort. But either way prices are ok where they are and we need to do what we can to keep them that way till the economy is repaired.

OPEC Expected To Drastically Cut Oil Flow
Saudi Arabia, OPEC's de-facto leader, said Wednesday the group will slash a record 2 million barrels from its daily production as of Jan. 1 in order to boost global oil prices. Russia and other countries also said they would remove hundreds of thousands of additional barrels from the market.

Saudi oil minister Ali Naimi said there was an OPEC consensus ahead of a formal agreement later in the day for the cut.

An official decision to cut 2 million barrels from output all at once would be a first for the organization. OPEC had cut that amount from its output four years ago, but that was done in two stages.

But there is a question as to whether a production cut will have the desired effect.
Nice little fact about them not thinking straight about the worlds economy issues and how this will NOT help matters..
"OPEC is cutting production in a slowing global economy and they are really out of step with the rest of the globe, which is really trying to inspire economic growth,"

$1.989 here and there is no reason for it. I'm just about fed up with this constant gouging from the oil companies.

Seriously, explain this to me. When oil was $144 a barrel, gas was $3.999 a gallon. Now, it's not even $50 a barrel and it's $2 a gallon?

Don't go giving me the BS reasoning of because the supply has been cut. I ain't buyin that crap no more.
