backing up your rig
I was wondering if those of you who back up your PC's to an external HD if you disconnect it after it is backed up or do you just leave it connected?
Currently, My pc is backed up to an external USB HD.

I have Windows Home Server connected to my Home Network and an external HD that backs up the most important files from that.

As always, Great point Cat. Much appreciated for your response and other peoples as well.YeOldeStonecat wrote:If a surge hits your PC...any peripherals connected to your PC could get cooked.
So for a smarter backup, if your data is important to you, some sort of storage that can removed from the PC and kept in a safe place is best.
Have have 3 USB externals that I keep files backed up to using file synchronization. (like Microsoft's sync toy)
I also make incremental backups to my Windows 2003 server, from my main workstation. The Windows 2003 is running raid 1.
I have a lot of pictures of my daughter and some document files on two flash thumb drives. I keep one in my car, and one on my keychain. If something happens to my computer and external backup drives (god forbid, fire, tornado ECT) at least I have those pics and files that I can not replace. I guess that the main name of the backup game.. "redundancy"
