USB to Parallel

Post by VIKTOR2020 »

Got a nice new computer but it has no parallel port. I tried Belkin's USB to Parallel cable but Vista can't see the printer on the other end. It's an old (but reliable) HP Deskjet 4L. Vista has the driver for the 4L and installs that but still no communication.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Personally, I would go with an add on card, instead of a cable approach...

You have 6 PCI slots on your board, so a PCI to parallel card would probably be the best option. To eliminate the possibilities of problems with Vista, get one that is approved for use with Vista. And, I have found Siig to be of quality. This card should do what you want it to do...

I've used those Belkin USB ==> Parallel cables before with Vista.....sometimes they take 2-3 times in trying to install the printer. Not overly fond of those though....if printing is important..take the hardware approach like above....either a Siig, or a Lava card.

I had made it work for one shinning moment last night, but this morning it won't cooperate worth a d###. I'll try your suggestions and try the hardware route. I had already tried a SYBA parallel port in the computer and couldn't get any action out of it, that's why I was exploring cable as an alternative. I really appreciate the recommendation of SIIG as my local store carries them.
Thanks
