Uncontacted tribe sighted in Amazon

Post by greEd »

This kind of thing amazes me.
Researchers have produced aerial photos of jungle dwellers who they say are among the few remaining peoples on Earth who have had no contact with the outside world.

It won't last much longer... the threats against them will most likely have to cause someone to make contact.

Threats, you mean big corps moving in and destroying yet another tribe...sadly at times *civilization* can be a threat.

Someone needs to get down there and introduce them to all the new diseases that they have never been inoculated against. Should take no more than 48 hours to wipe them off the map.

:( ...hopefully not, they need to be left alone, too many tribes have had thier lands destroyed, pillaged and raped by modern society already.

Seeing as how there is oil on that land (work with me) they will be relocated to a "like" area so they can continue their unique life style.

The web-cams (14 of them) are up and running. Here is a shot from camera 3. It would appear that some of the natives are wrestling for pleasure... or pain.

Probably the only contact they need with modern civilization, is with someone with enough authority to set aside a few 1000 acres (or however much land they need) to make sure they can maintain life as they have been for many of generations now.
"These pictures are further evidence that uncontacted tribes really do exist," Cory said in a statement. "The world needs to wake up to this, and ensure that their territory is protected in accordance with international law. Otherwise, they will soon be made extinct."

Taken from the article.
The National Indian Foundation, a government agency in Brazil, published the photos Thursday on its Web site. It tracks "uncontacted tribes" -- indigenous groups that are thought to have had no contact with outsiders -- and seeks to protect them from encroachment.
It really is pretty amazing just to imagine what it's like from their perspective. It's probably the equivalent of some super-advanced super-intelligent alien race showing up and introducing concepts that none of us have ever even conceived... Unbelievable.

As for "protecting" them... I don't know how I feel about it, on one hand it almost feels like making them an "endangered species" that are not to be bothered, but on the other who says that they wouldn't want contact with outsiders (if they have such a concept) and is it our place to make that decision? I don't know that there is any clear answer to that one...

Can anyone say "Emerald Forest"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Emerald_Forest

If there's a dispute over land rights for timber/minerals than they're dust, even if authentic.

If not, they're pegged anyways and are now eventually dust regardless.
