My brother and I started a business a few years back and it's doing fine, but that's not really what I need funding for. We came up with this idea several months ago and have been building on it since for web 2.0 application with subscription based pricing schemes, much like everyone else these days. However our idea is very unique and addresses many of the issues we run into with customers every day. Because of the unique nature of this service and the fact that there are literally 0 competitors in the field, I certainly think we could get started making money pretty easily.
Anyways, the issue is that we would need to develop it. This would take money, and as a small business we don't exactly have that kind of spare change laying around. Do you all have any ideas as to where to attain funding, be it grants or private investors? Maybe you have done something in the past and have acquired funding in a creative way and care to share?
Thanks

Check out government grants... Google is your buddy...
Just be sure to use the money exactly as you state. You must think of all costs and include them. Don't forget that you will need to include payroll for you and your brother. This is ok and expected... Don't short change yourself. Be sure to cross your t's and dot your i's, if you follow. The best organized plans are what will get you the grant, the amount is less relevant...
I know of some peeps that did this some years ago. Do your research and think of everything that can and will cost you. Project out 6 months to a year, verify time line.
As long as you use the money EXACTLY as you write it, ie, payroll $5,000 per week, you are ok, deviate even slightly and you will owe the money along with interest...

I've always had a hard time looking at grants. I find them harder to browse through and figure out than government contracts. Do you have any recommendations or read-ups?Ken wrote:Check out government grants... Google is your buddy...
