Problems with my CD ROM?

Post by Sting »

I’m having a problem; maybe someone could be kind enough and help me out?

About a week ago, I upgraded my system from Windows 98 to XP. Outside of having a new operating system that I wasn’t to familiar with, things were going better well. Everything seemed to work fine: CD ROM, Video Card etc. Then today I popped in a music CD and nothing happened. The last few days my Pioneer DVD/CD worked fine, playing any CD I had put into it. Then today, nothing!!! Well any ways, I checked under Device Manager and noticed a yellow warning sign next to my CD player. When I clicked on it, it read: “Windows can not load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. ( Code 39).

Well I uninstalled the device and then re-installed it, and still the same message appeared. So when I checked under folder options in Windows, I see (A), (C) and removable (E) drives, but no (D) drive. Somehow, my (D) drive has been deleted. How this happened, I don’t know?

Does anyone here know how I can correct this problem? Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks for your time,

John

It should show up under "other devices" in your device manager. (get to it from control panel>system>hardware>device manager)

You can try to Delete it from the other devices section and reboot to see if XP finds it again. Also, if you're familiar with your BIOS, go into it and see if it's being recognized from there.

Thanks for trying to help.
I followed the path that you had suggested: (control panel>system>hardware>device manager), but “didn’t” find the section: “Other Devices”. Like I had said, I just installed XP and really don’t know it. But thanks for trying to help.
