Dual monitors on 7300GT

Post by rowie4life »

I just got a nvidia 7300gt but i can't get dual monitor to work.
I connected monitor 1 to the VGA and monitor 2 to the DVI. The monitor in the VGA works, but the monitor in the DVI don't.

I connected monitor 2 to the VGA and monitor 1 to the DVI. The monitor in the VGA works, but the monitor in the DVI don't.

I've got a feeling that i got the wrong VGA-DVI cable.

If i got this cable would it work? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130513

You can set it up to display on one or the other..but the way your trying to do it isn't going to work. What your asking is not dual monitors cause your trying hook it up to a TV and that requires the control panel setting for TV out.

You can do dual monitor setup with a tv, have you gone into the nvidia control panel, display section, and checked the settings under multiple displays/played witht he settings?

yeah he can do it..but not the way I believe he is explaining it. It isn't a cable issue either...but I don't believe he's explained everything yet.

I have changed the display setting on nvidia control panel with no luck.
On the "Set up multiple displays" It has both monitor and tv, so I set it to dualview. Only the display in the VGA works.

EDIT
I found out It's a DVI-I on the card and i got a DVI-D cable.

Just so you know you want DVI-D for an LCD Monitor with a DVI input. The connectors on my LCD monitors are a female DVI-D (digital only) and a VGA connector. A male DVI-I connector will not fit into a female DVI-D. A DVD-D male will plug into a DVI-I female though. The connector on the video card is DVI-I (Digital and analog) so you can use a VGA monitor with the DVI to VGA adapter.

The picture is the DVI on my gfx card. I've read up on the DVI connector and what i found out was this is a DVI-I dual link connection.

I don't have a DVI connection on my monitor or TV.
What I've got (and don't work) is a DVI-D to VGA cable. What I think I need now is a DVI-I to VGA/HDMI cable

Yes your video card has a DVI-I (integrated analog & digital) connector and a standard VGA connector. If your second monitor only has a VGA connector then a DVI to VGA adapter would be required. MY present video card is like that and I ran two CRTs from it that way. My current setup is two 19 LCDs one on the VGA connector and one on the DVI connector with a DVI-D male to male dual link cable. My video card doesn't support HDMI so I have no idea how that works. Correct me if I am wrong but if you are just trying to use two VGA monitors then you shouldn't be messing with the TV-out, correct?

That appears to be a DVI-I male connector, what is on the other side/end?
This is what I used to convert my video cards DVI output to VGA.

VGA.
Who ever dreamt up the DVI and all its different types should be slapped... Hard... in the nuts. I just ordered the connector. I’ll let you know if it works.

My LCD didn't come with a DVI cable and after seeing more than one type I did some research so I wouldn't end up with a cable that didn't work. The inputs are split on my monitors with a separate analog VGA connector and a digital DVI-D connector. They come with the VGA cables. I guess its all because of back wards compatibility. The kicker is that a DVI-I male won't connect to the DVI-D on the monitor. I would say a common mistake is to order a DVI-I cable only to find you can't plug it in to your monitor. I'm about to upgrade my video card and the new one will have Dual DVI connectors. I see some video cards come with the DVI to VGA adapter included.

Continuing on with the DVI saga, if you look at that adapter you will see that it is yet a third flavor of the DVI connector - DVI-A (analog only).
Sorry can't help you with the VLC player problem.
