What to do about a bad roommate?

I hate my college roommate....

Reasons: (rather list them, instead of a big-o story)

- pays bills late.... we split the bills 50/50. Recently out power bill was 90 bucks. We are 5 days late and he pays me a $20 bill and a check for $25 bucks... pain in the ass for me, I had to rewrite a new check and go to the bank
- gave me money for internet bill 2months after I paid it in full
- friends hate him... we both had same group of friends. Until he drunkenly slapped 2 girls.... he always talks about HIMSELF... I can count in a day the word "I" about 60 times, "I did this" "I did that" I I I.
- plays my xbox 360 all the time... ALL the time
- bashes on me for not drying his dishes correctly
- gets drunk off 2-3 beers (and hes a meat head)
- anger problems - if he aint right you aint right.

Hes basically a self-centered meat head. Good workout buddy and friend to talk to about girls. Other than that I cant stand him and people don't want to come over my house because they don't want to hear him talking about himself.

He thinks we are going to live together next year, I plan to live somewhere else. How should I approach this? Anyone had a roommate like this before?

If the bills are in your name lay down some rules.

Payment by a certain date, as soon as possible after you receive the bill. Get the statement online if you want it asap. Figure out now if it's ok if he's a few days late or if that makes all the difference in your rooming together.

As far as him paying in cash and check, that's up to him and shouldn't be a concern for you. Adjust your bill payment accordingly, he can pay you however he wants unless you specify otherwise ahead of time.

Same for your personal effects. He won't realize you don't want him playing your gaming system unless you say, "Play my xbox whenever you want to" or "keep the hell away from my **** unless you ask."

Wash your own dishes, not his. Likewise him. Then there's no room to bitch.

As for his alcohol tolerance...no room to judge unless he gets annoying or abusive. At which point you either discuss it with him or find a new roommate.

Sounds like you're in a dorm?

You can always request a roommate change I assume.

If not you're bound to make friends and meet people you'll want to live with

I wouldn't have a roomate. I would work part time and pay the extra.

also you may wanna move in with a fat chic and change yer nick to Freerider

I hate my roommate too.

I started ignoring him when I am not making fun of him and it has seemed to work. However, im not financially dependant on him. If I were and he was not paying up I would hurt him. Only way human's learn these days.

You don't owe him an explanation...it's a free country..you can choose where you live, and who you live with.

Is there some sort of lease agreement involved here? Is he on the lease, if there is? If there is, and you cannot reach an agreement over your annoyances, after having a serious discussion about them and setting your boundaries, no explanation is required as to why you are changing room-mates. I doubt however, that he will be changing his habits, sooooo...start looking

I say just give it to him straight about what ya think of his centered views/playing ur game system more than chasing women(True winner there) and of course that your just not happy, boot him but be nice, lay down the law but be nice. If all else fails say sorry buddy but im out,,,BUT be nice..

You will find another room mate, and if your studies are going to lead you to a great career? you dont need a room mate. Just my opinion...

lease ends soon, i just want my deposit money back. Im going to tell him next year I am commuting to school so he needs to find his own place to live.

we both transfer into college at the same time and we needed a place to live.
