COD4 demo: hands on

Post by EvilAjax »

First off, let me just say I was never a fan of any of the call of duty series because of the lack of blood and the time frame. Missions were boring to me.

Now, THIS ****ING GAME IS THE ****ING BEST. Holy ****. Realism to the max. First of all, I love the fact that you see your player actually putting on the night vision goggles. It just adds to the whole realism thing. Image

I'm running the game with every graphical setting on high as possible. Have the body count set to "insane". This means there are hundreds of dead soldiers all over. I've only played 10 minutes and already ran across 10 different kinds of weapons. M4A1s, to AKs, to Snipers, Grenades, Rocket Launchers, RPG (whatever its called), etc.

Everything your teammates say, is true. "Enemy up ahead ten feet to the northeast, by the market! He has an AK!"

My God, they really worked on this game. I've noticed tons of realism already. Besides the graphics and ambient, the way the players and enemies act is just insane. They're all doing their own thing. If an enemy sees them, it shoots at them, and not only you like most games do. If an enemy is badly injured, lets say, shot in the stomach or something.. you can see them hunched over.. but not giving up.. still firing shots with their pistols.. you can see their facial expression showing pain and agony.. that is until you put them out of it with a bullet to the skull.

Sniping has never been more fun. Of course you have to hold your breath to steady the scope, which makes it just that much more realistic. I've only played 10 minutes and I'm already in love. I'm buying this ****ing game.

Anyone else tried it yet? What are your thoughts?

Here are some in-game screenshots I took:

Anyone else have it? :)

I don't intend to download it cause its single player only.. I'm only interested in multiplayer so when they release it for multiplayer then I'll test it.

Some of the abilities seem ok and on par with BF2...in fact, from what I've read, it seems very similar with regards to play....the ability to call an arty strike every 10-15 seconds kinda blows though.

Um no.

BF2 sucks dude, seriously. I have it and it's just collecting dust.

This game is just so amazing and realistic that it baffles me.

People you put a couple of rounds into will beg for mercy.. ask you to spare their life... WTF? Dude that is just too amazing.

Sava, you're a multiplayer wh*re lol
Seriously, you don't know what you're missing. The AI in the game is bonkers.

BF2 sucks? Coming from a CS:S player?....I'll file that comment appropriately.

I just finished playing a round and I like what I've seen so far. Similar to MoH:AA but x10 in overall play. Very interested in how the MP will play out.

If the gameplay is just as good as COD UO , i'll definately give it a try.
If it s*cks like on COD 2 , i probably won't touch it.

Anyway , i'll keep updated about it ,and will decide after MP is released.

no..you can call in arty strikes or have a blackhawk circle for you to clear a path depending on how well you play.... you can actually form a battallion of a few squads now...

dude driving vehicles in FPS MP sucks..

BF2 is gay because I always get nuked by a damn jet while running to kill an enemy fair and square.

and yes, even while playing without vehicles it's not that fun. I'm sorry :(

Anyway, this thread is about COD4, not BF2. ;)

Vehicles in FPS games dont suck, its a great addition. Something COD should have done. The COD series has had a decent single player game and horribly boring multiplayer its entire run so far. "Lots" of blood and AI guys talking doesnt make up for that.

The battlefield series broke new ground in FPS games, set a new standard. Also you never get "nuked" by a jet cuz they dont carry nukes ;)

With COD always being behind the curve I wonder if this is the last run for the game. Battlefield games are better set to move into DX10 than COD, so it may get killed by DX10. No big loss.

The graphics look good but not better than others in any certain way.

Vehicleness in a game makes me not play it as my favorite thing to do is kill them on foot.

Just tried the demo and it feels just like cod1 and cod2 but kinda odd as instead of a grande in your hands you got an m16a4.

I'll buy it when it's $30.

Not bad, Have to wait for the MP to know if I like it long term. Feels too much like ghost recon to me.

You know the weapon switch key is 2 right? lol

and YoS, whatever the hell those jets have, I get bombed, hit with a missile, etc.. IDK, don't care :D

Vehicles in single player games is fun, but in my opinion, shouldn't be an addition for multiplayer games. :p

but we all have our differences lol

Like I said before, I've never liked any of the COD's up until this one.. I'm just amazed.

I agree with Shagster , more of a fan of shooting man to man instead of driving vehicles.

Personally think BF looks great ,but there is too much going on ,and just too hectical for me.

Further more of a fan of WWII games than modern warfare,

another reason why i'm not sure i will like COD 4.

Probably an age thing............. :) :D

The Battlefield Series is the gold standard of FPS gaming. If there isn't a tank to drive, a jet to pilot or helicopters for me to shoot down it's just another spray and pray shooter. I need the element of death from all around ....it keeps me on my toes and if I'm repeatedly killed by something or someone I adapt instead of whining about it.

I'm 35 and after playing 2d games with nothing ....I was thrilled to see when BF 1942 came out that I could drive and fly stuff.... :thumb:

COD4 will no doubt have stellar infantry action but we all know that 'real' combat involves vehicles.

i have the demo, and its amazing. i already pre-ordered it from bestbuy, but for my xbox 360. i also had the 360 MP beta, and that was killer, the custom classes, with all the perks, and customized weapons. probably my favorite fps ever.
