Although I am not a fan of EIDE burners, my impatience got the better of me.

This puppy is fast. Full 650Meg CD in 4:40... and accurate

I will say that when it is reading at high speed it is as noisy as Hell... Also a SCSI version is soon on its way.

cool,

cool deal, man. i have had decent success with yamaha drives in the past. a tad noisy, yes.

awhile back i sold my ultra SCSI card, reader and burner to help fund my new comp. i really like SCSI for some of its little idiosyncrasies such as discreetly handling data routing duties on the SCSI bus, freeing up cpu cycles. multithreading and hot connect/disconnect (though i never utilized that on my system).

the only thing i didnt like was it could be such a bear to put together a SCSI channel, especially with a boot drive, on some less cooperative systems. even more so if the card was not designed to work with ASPI drivers. without the factory startup disc, you would have to script your own, and for me, that was a major pain.

anyhow, my freind has an adaptec U160 host and 30GB drive that i have been eyeing for a few weeks. if i ask him really really nice, he may sell it to me. :)

I have been a fan of SCSI systems for years... They are quick and free up the CPU... They are very tempermental, though.

All newer mobos seem to work well with SCSI... I would stick to a ASPI model (read: Adaptec) I have the U2W (80MHz) board... works very well. I had a UW, but I gave it away... did not need it any longer.

I'd nab that board and drive!!!!!!

this burner is quick!

shant,
david
