How to reduce lag in online games
How to reduce lag in online games
Hi i did some of the tweaks that were on you forums, and tools and instead of reducing i got much higher ping for example when playing Counter Strike 1.6...before i got about 20-30 latency and now 40-60. Can u tell me how to make it less latency ? i triend with TCP optimizer and after restored it with backup but nothing, still 50 latency HELP!?!

Not much you can do for latency as far as tweaking.
Can restore your TCP stack to virgin by using a rebuild utility such as
http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/WinSoc ... xpfix.html
Use a quality router, many newer ones are optimized for gaming.
Good clean system, no ad/spyware/worms/viruses
Quality ISP
Minimal intrusion antivirus, lightweight one.
Software firewalls can bog down system a bit too.

I dont have a router,im connected to my cable modem via ethernet card...also my connection i 1024/256 and i have 50 latency and some other guys have 512/128 and still have double less latency than me....i use kaspersky internet security 6 XP PRO SP2 and all the updates. can u give me some tips how to improve it ? i will try with winsock now
Latency could be decided by alot of factors... starting with the speed of your computer as how it reads the incoming data and then moves it back out. Also the routing from your machine to the gaming server. Best two ways to help ping is either get a better internet connection, faster on up and downstream or more steady. Another way is to find a closer server or one that the routing from you to it gives faster pings or better latency.RazorMK wrote:I dont have a router,im connected to my cable modem via ethernet card...also my connection i 1024/256 and i have 50 latency and some other guys have 512/128 and still have double less latency than me....i use kaspersky internet security 6 XP PRO SP2 and all the updates. can u give me some tips how to improve it ? i will try with winsock now
Point being, I'm in Virginia and I have better routing to Chicago than I do to Washington DC and thats a 400mile difference, or I'll ping better when I go south vs north from my location..it just varies.
Hi all. First post @ SG.
I'm no expert but I recently read a page on "uncapping".
Here it is: http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=110
Hope that helps.

Oh and also I play an 8 yr old game Called Deus Ex. I host and play on other servers, but ping is as unreliable as the wind!
I quote (from SG's very own speed test page):
I quote (from SG's very own speed test page):
"Web-based speet tests are just an estimate of the slowest link between you and the test server.
Tests are dependent on many factors, such as time of day, congestion on the path at the time, your ISP's backbone/connectivity, your allocated bandwidth, the particular node you're on, the state of the Internet at the time, latency, moon phase, etc."
