only one connection

only one connection

trying to use two computers on one cable modem thru a netgear switch.The first computer booted up will take the connection. The second one will have no connectivity. If i shut down one and reset modem and start the other it will connect but then the other will not. Can any one help me

You will need a router to use both computers at the same time because your ISP has limited your account to one IP address at a time. A switch or hub wont work.
