Okay, so I got a new laptop that is 64bit. I would like to install XP on it instead of the current version of vista that it came with which is horrible! My disk of XP is only service pack 1, and then i would upgrade to service pack 2. Is my version compliant with a 64bit machine or will i not be able to install XP on this computer? TIA!

It really shouldn't matter what you load on it.. just the hard ware has to be 64bit compliant to load the software on it..kmax wrote:Okay, so I got a new laptop that is 64bit. It'll run 32bit windows XP fine.
Grab the SP2 before you do it, get SP2 installed before you hit the net.

Thank you so much for the advice. I will give it a go ahead tomorrow after work. Also, I was doing research looking at installing ubuntu. Does anyone have any experience with linux and do they like it? Have you had issues with installation or getting applications to do the things you want to do? I have never used linux before, but I am getting so fed up with microsoft I am seriously considering going to linux. Is it possible to run microsoft based applications in linux like photoshop and how hard is it to implement that?
Ubuntu is fairly straight forward for a previous windows user. And yes you can run many MS programs with Linux with programs such as WINE. There are too many things to cover in this post to say if going Linux is right for you. But I would suggest either Ubuntu or PCLinux for a first time linux user. Read up on them some on their respective forums to see if you like what you see. But also you can download the cd of either of those distros and run the live cd to see if you like it before you ever install to the HD.
