August 13, 2007 -- The NYPD's new patrol chief has ordered that special overtime money earmarked for cops in violence-prone precincts be given to "aggressive" officers rather than "do-nothings," The Post has learned.

Chief Robert Giannelli issued that edict last week during a meeting with his borough chiefs, who then relayed it to their precinct commanders, sources said.

"intelligently aggressive"....oh brother

The way I read it they are just rewarding the more active officers rather than the goldbrickers. I think Burke just posted with his usual hard-on for all things authority without actually reading the content. Aggressive in this instance doesn't seem to mean physical, rather task oriented.

Maybe so, However, I believe it is a bad idea. I understand the concept of what they are doing as incentive wise. I just believe that the cops are gonna take this over board and these cops are gonna take this "aggressive Incentive"
and it is going to turn these cops into bigger bully's

I’m not as afraid of local cops as I am federal authorities. Local cops have family and friends in the area. Federal pricks have no local social ties and will come in with Gestapo-like tactics and kill you just over money, such as nonpayment of taxes.

Sure this is a set-up that is open to abuse. But where does the idea come from? The top, as in our current president. Local leaders see how Bush man handles the world with brute force and the local guys see that as a model. As in the way things should be done.

There is no doubt we need more control over crime, but the “aggressive” attitude needs to be watched carefully, and I mean real close. Or we’ll wind up with more city riots over stuff like we had with Rodney King.

The murder rate in New Orleans is almost 11 times higher then any city in this nation. I’d like to get out there and hand out some vigilante justice myself by shooting some of the murdering idiots in the head.

*Blam* right in the temple and then make his friends clean up the brain matter.

But then, oh my lord, the complete anarchy that what ensue afterwards! I would love to be able to figure out a way to lower the crime rate with out reverting back to the wild west days.
