Mormons

Post by Brent »

I had an interesting experience today, I was heading out my door and I was stopped by two very well dressed young women who wore badges that said "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints". I spoke with them for a second, not the first time I have spoken with a Mormon mind you, and I felt in my spirit that I should let them in to speak, which is something I have never done before. So I invited them into my apartment.

I asked them to take a seat and get comfortable, and that they could tell me about their faith and what they wanted to share with me. I stood while they sat. I also smiled warmly, shook their hands, and told them that I was interested in what they had to say. They wanted to start with a prayer, but I insisted that I would like to pray the first prayer. I felt this was the best way to set the overall tone, and they found this acceptable. I did not let them know that I was aware of what they would tell me, when they would tell me, how they would tell me, and what they would do. However, they did do exactly what I thought they would.

As for their message, I spoke with them gently, and we exchanged perspectives on what we believed. It was a little surprising for me to find that we did indeed have things in common, however, I do understand that when someone is trying to convert, they will identify with you as much as possible. They were courteous, kind, and devoted to what they believed. After a long discussion, they were ready to move on, I accepted a copy of the Book of Mormon and do have an interest in reading it because I do like to be more informed about these things.

They asked if I would be interested in being baptized in the church, and I politely declined. I made it known that there was a lot to consider, and I appreciated their effort and told them I would call them if I had any questions. They left with handshakes and smiles, and I told them to be safe and go with God. They appreciated that very much.

So I think this was a very positive experience, and even though I do not feel the desire to move toward Mormonism, I respect their love of the faith and wish them the best. Will they be back? Probably. And I will welcome them into my home again.

I did that once myself too, I let 'em in & we chatted. All went well & they left in good spirits. I have great respect for those that are so dedicated to their faiths. It takes a lot of courage and confront to be able to set out for the day with a purpose such as theirs & deal w/ complete starngers. I myself have the ability to face and speak with anyone, stranger or not. This is no small ability & I admire it when I see others that have it.

interesting story... around here they are pretty much taking over. Convincing some small stores not to sell beer, buying up all the property they can(which when I sell my house won't be all bad) Lots of money to toss around the college they run here which seems to be booming. I just dislike anyone knocking on my door pushing any religion no matter what it is. If I feel like it, i'll get up and go to a church.

Brent, being kind and friendly is a wonderful thing. As a former Mormon and card carrying Priesthood holder that's all I will say in public. PLEASE feel free to PM me if you care to talk about the LDS faith. :thumb:

They came to my door a long time ago, and at the time I had a fake book of satan. I pulled it out and asked if they would like me to tell them about my faith. They declined and said they felt sorry for where I was headed in the afterlife. I told them I couldn't wait.

Brent is that you?

I have respect for anyone who actually lives by and rules themselves according to their faith. As far as I've read over the years, all Christians are supposed to spread the word of God, and the Mormons actually do go door to door all over north america (maybe elsewhere too) to spread the word to others. Good for them, and good for you Brent for showing them the courtesy, and respect they deserve.

I still don't believe there is a God, but it's nice to see that some who do believe take the word of God seriously.

Always had alot of respect for the Mormons even if I disagree with some of their philosophy. By and large I find their members to be very good and decent people. :)

I used to go to a mormon church. My family on my fathers side are all LDS.

I've done some reading on "JOSEPH SMITH" and my conclusion is he was a CRIMINAL period.

I'm sure every moderator for 3 square subnets will be checking my IP on here, and you can see I'm smack dab in the middle of Mormonville for a short time.

You know what? **** MORMONS.

I usually don't bash other people's religion one bit, live and let live.

These little ****s come banging on people's doors around here telling us we are so wrong and that we are "damned for all of eternity". **** 'em. They think they are so much better the "others" in this area.

Bigotry for smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, drinking COFFEE AND TEA. But PEPSI? Oh you're a perfectly good saint then. The LDS church owns a large portion of Pepsi Co, go figure.

I could go on and ****ing on and on, but LDS is the biggest bullshit religion in all of eternity.

I would rather be neighbors with a Catholic, Pagan, Satanist, or Buddhist any day.

**** MORMONS

I don’t blame you for hiding who you are, I would too I if were that stupid. If you are going to spew about hatred and intolerance, at least get your damn facts straight.

The rumor is that the Mormon’s own Coke and/or Pepsi.

damn. I had a fairly good idea who it was (although its getting harder and harder to keep his identities straight) and was waiting for his sniping response to my ponderance to confirm my belief.

ah well, back to real life.

Well, actually, they were cute.

Still, I think I did the right thing, I had never really heard their entire message before, and was curious. I think we like to push away things we don't understand or don't have full comprehension of. A lesson might be we should embrace information when it comes to us, if we aren't informed on a topic. I learned a lot that day.
